Where can I tap into a +5V supply on the gen3 ECU connector that comes on when the the IGN button is pressed? I need to connect an ECT_Spoofer

    Thanks.

I might be interested in installing something like this if the Gen III has the similar habit to the Gen II of wanting to start the ICE just because it is going through a "power up" cycle. I wouldn't use this to spoof a truly cold start, but instead for those times where you drive 15 - 20 minutes to a store, run in to buy something quickly (less than 5 minutes), and start the car again only to have the ICE come on. True, it may only come on for a short while if the engine is warm, but even that seems to me to be wasteful.

It would better if the logic were something like this:

    1) Power turned on; check engine temp.
    2) If temp at nominal then follow normal energy management process.
    3) If temp not at nominal then start ICE to warm engine to nominal.

I'm in the process of building a simple circuit. Anybody know the best place to go through the firewall?

Well I got through the firewall with a lot less difficulty than I thought I would have. I installed the simple circuit. Works like a charm. Raises the temp about 40-50 degrees F. Perfect. thanks.

Not sure of the word boot, but do you mean which rubber grommet did I go through?

Can't post a picture of it...because I was never even able to see it, I did it all by feel, but, if you open the hood, look on the passenger side firewall and you will see a large cable bundle going horizontally along the firewall. Follow that bundle until it disappears down and behind the wheelwell. You have to go over and stand by the wheelwell to feel the bundle to find where it goes through. You'll feel the rubber grommet.

When you go through, you will need to take off the glove box, which is quite simple, to snake your wire in. Even from the inside, you will never actually see where it enters.

Now that it has been Years since this hack was posted, can any of you thermistor hack users up date us on how it has worked out for you? Or,, maybe answer these questions? Lets see if we can revive a dead thread...

    1. Do you remove all of your hack mod's before going in to the Toyota repair shop?
    2. Has it impacted your warranty at all?
    3. Have you had any adverse effects from using it?
    4. How much of a savings have you gained in MPG by using it?.
    5. In your opinion, would you still tell others it is worth doing???

Thank you for your time, and reply!

    1......no
    2......no
    3.....no

4.......for my driving route and habits... an extra 150km before empty tank warning comes

5...tell the world about this!... if only for the annoying start up every time you move your car to wash it etc. etc... or just go to local store to buy newspaper

    should be a sticky!

Thank you for the replies. I am just a bit cautious as our Prius is like 4 months old, and has not even passed 5K miles yet. I would hate to do the mod, and then take it in for warranty work, and be told "you voided your warranty by doing that modification"...
