Yuasa battery date code. Prius jdm. 2013

    Hi guys. This is the shot of the battery from my 2013 prius jdm.how to read the date? I am reading it 13/7/18.if this is correct then its 5 years old. Reason I am asking is because my mpg is gone down about 10% and I have read the 12 v can be the culprit.thanks.

    The manufacture date is July 18, 2013;).

    So about 5 years old.

    Some questions:
    • Has your Prius spent its whole life in Pakistan?
    • Do you have a way to shield the interior from heat?
    • Are you seeing any other odd behavior to suspect the 12 volt?
    • What does the 12 volt read with the car off overnight and test it in the morning?
    • Have you ever had to jump start your Prius?
    • How many miles on your Prius?

    While a weak 12 volt could be a cause of lower mpg, there are plenty of other reasons too;).

    For a very rudimentary check of it's condtion, check the voltage with multimeter. Over 12.5 volts it's still viable, over 12.6 it's near 100%. Maybe...: an electronic load test (something like Solar BA5) will give a better assessment.

    Still, 2013, it's pretty much time to change, 5 years is a good lifespan.

    I imported it from Japan in 2017 with 54 thousand km and now it's at 76000 km. I am kinda getting ahead of myself since I never checked the voltage of 12v and just assumed that's its the battery since everything else stayed the same.

    Thanks and what will be the readings after driven few km since I ain't got the multimeter and gotta take it to mechanics.

    I think it tends to read falsely high after charging, even just the driving that occurs during driving. Best is to get your own multimeter, check voltage after it's sat overnight. A meter can be purchased for $20~30 even. Still, digital load tester is better.

    To directly answer your question though: immediately after driving I'd guess it would read 0.1 volt higher?? Not a lot.

    OK that sounds good. And thanks again. Anyway what about taking it to mechanic and letting it sit there for like 30 minutes before he hooks up his multimeter? Reason I am asking is that no part shop around and I probably need to get it from Amazon which can take up to couple of weeks.

    Just hooked up one of those elm327(clone) and it showed battery at 11.8.how reliable are these clones?

    Not sure. "elm327" is reading at the On-Board Diagnostics port I gather. 11.8 volts is pretty much dead. You might be able to revive with a smart charger (stick to 4 amp or lower), but if it's the original it's good time to replace.

    Invest in a decent digital multimeter, always good to have around. Also, look into Solar BA5, BA7 and various others on the market: electronic load testers for the DIY'r. And a decent "smart charger". And a jump pack, lol, if you want all the bases covered. :)

    Well it's sure looks the original since the manufacturing date is same as the car(2013). I Wana replace it and which brings me to the next equation, I can't find any batteries with the side vent in the local market. Would it be OK to put one without one? Thanks

    It'd be "ok" but definitely not ideal. If for example you went with a regular, flooded-acid battery, chances are it'd be very hard to find one of reasonably close dimensions, and the post diameters is another issue. Note too, the hold-down bracket is VERY unforgiving of even the slightest height difference, really a poor design in that regard.

    Either you find one with the skinny posts, or you need to modify/replace the cables/clamps. Then: conventional battery, without vent connection, will be putting a small amount of hydrogen in the cabin air. Also, in a crash, they may spill acid.

    In North America there are several options I've made note of:

    1. OEM Yuasa through Toyota dealerships (maybe some rebadging?)
    2. Optima Yellow Top 46B24R
    3. Bosch Premium Performance Battery Group Size 51 Part # 51-440BAGM
    4. ACDelco ACDB24R Advantage AGM Automotive BCI Group 51 Battery
    5. Exide FP-AGM51JIS

    I've replaced my OEM with the Optima, but have since been reading it has excessive Cold Cranking Amps, and falls short a bit in Amp Hours. Next time I may go with a Canadian Tire battery, probably rebadged from some manufacturer:

    MotoMaster Eliminator Ultra AGM
    Manufacturer's Product Number: ELU-S46B24R

    I appreciate there's likely no Canadian Tire or (US) Pep Boys nearby you, but hopefully the above list can at least help find something similar.

    Thanks much.that sure will help. We do have variety of dry cell maintenance free batteries around. My only concern was that small amount of hydrogen.optima yellow top is available at the rate of 650 bucks. With that kind of money I might as well take a trip back to NY(Long Island) that's where I used to live!!!local battery guy says that those sealed maintenance free batteries are safe and I shouldn't worry about it.
