Southeast Toyota Pulls Ads From ABC Due to "Excessive Coverage"

Submitted by Danny on February 8, 2010 - 4:10pm.

Thought I would share this quick bit of news: The ad agency representing 173 dealers in 5 Southeast states has told the local ABC affiliates to pull their commercials. The agency told ABC affiliates last week that the shift was due to "excessive stories on the Toyota issues." Instead, the dealers have shifted their commercial time buys to non-ABC stations in the same markets, "as punishment for the reporting," according to an ABC station manager.

Monday Morning Prius Diary - February 8th

Submitted by Danny on February 8, 2010 - 10:42am.

This weekend it was hard to avoid the talk of the Prius brake "issue" and the software update coming. I didn't do anything or go anywhere interesting this weekend, but I figured some of you may have. Overhear any Prius recall talk at a Super Bowl Party yesterday? Did you take your Prius out to try and get the brakes to skip a beat?

The interview will cover all Toyota products, not just the Prius, but feel free to throw some questions in there and post them in the comments so we can Digg them to the top.

Can you digg it?

How To Tell If Your 2010 Prius Is Affected by the Brake Issue

Submitted by Danny on February 5, 2010 - 11:11am.

A Special Service Campaign (SSC) or full-fledged recall is imminent for the 2010 Toyota Prius to update the brake ECU software in order to resolve the "brake loss" sensation that occurs when the car changes over from regenerative brakes to the friction brakes. As I reported last night, an anonymous Toyota official told me that a fix is on the way.

Ford Fusion & Mercury Milan Hybrids Also Have Brake Problems

Submitted by Danny on February 4, 2010 - 7:38pm.

Finally, a break from Toyota recall news! Not surprisingly, Ford has announced that they will also have to fix their Fusion and Milan hybrids due to a braking issue related to the switchover from regenerative braking to friction braking.

PriusChat Legend Makes the Chicago News

One upside to all the news coverage regarding the Prius' brake issues is that PriusChat legends like Wayne Mitchell can get some publicity for themselves and their local Prius clubs.

Updated: Toyota Recalling 270,000 2010 Prius Hybrids in Japan & US for Brake Issue

Submitted by Danny on February 4, 2010 - 7:00pm.

Nothing official out of Toyota yet except for a very minimal statement, but the Nikkei news service in Japan is reporting that Toyota will recall 270,000 3rd generation Prius hybrids that have been sold since the May launch of the 2010 model.
