I don't drive a lot so on my 2008 Prius I could turn the smart key on/off with a button below the steering column and it keeps the system from constantly searching for the signal. That helps stop some of the drain on the 12 volt battery.
My new 2013 Prius 3 doesn't have that button. Is there a way to turn the smart key system on/off easily?
    Thanks for all answers.

No way to turn it off. The 2010 owner's manual states that after about 5 days of no driving that the SKS will automatically turn off to conserve 12V battery.

If you have Techstream, you can DIY easily. Otherwise, you can use the below procedures without Techstream:

    Code:
Power switch off, driver door closed and unlocked.
    (1) Push the unlock switch of the key once.
    (2) Open the driver door within 5 seconds.
    (3) Push the unlock switch of the key twice within 5 seconds.
    (4) Close and open the driver door twice within 30 seconds.
(Driver door: Close → Open → Close → Open)
    (5) Push the unlock switch of the key twice within 5 seconds.
    (6) Close and open the driver door within 30 seconds.
    (Driver door: Close → Open)
    (7) Close the driver door within 5 seconds.
When electrical key cancel is activated, the wireless door lock buzzer sounds twice.
To return to the original condition, perform the procedure again. When the original condition is returned, the wireless door lock buzzer sounds once.
I 've also tried this on my c and it works.

Thank you for those instructions. Evidently not too easy though.
When I was playing around with the Display system I noticed a setting somewhere (Can't remember where) that said something about electronic key (I assume it's some type of on/off for the sks but not sure). My thought was that if I turn it off in Display then I assume that I would have to use the manual method of starting the car with the key fob and then try to find that setting again to return to the sks.
    Any thoughts on that?

Yes, if you have Display Audio System, go to Setup -> Vehicle -> Key System with Elec. Key, turn Off / On as desired.

This is from the Display Audio System owners manual but it has no explanation as to the Elec. key function.

It is the same with the link I provided in post #7 (page 117).

I agree with you that more explanations should be given rather than refer back to Owner's Manual. I only learned that it can be done in this post.
