I did a quick search and haven't found any other posts or threads, but I'm noticing lately that as I'm driving, the Nav map will start blinking on and off. Its not the actual screen, its the display map with the streets and street detail. I took a video of the problem. Has anyone else experienced this before? None of my Magellans or Garmins ever did this.

I use the nav all the time for the traffic updates, so I haven't really been in danger of getting lost until this weekend when I was up in the mountains of NY State and had no clue where I was going. It made me a bit nervous and was VERY annoying :(

I'm nost sure if this applies to your model, but you can try holding the power button for 6 seconds for a reboot to see if it helps. The info is from a Prius v manual in regards to sluggishness

    Prius C's don't have a power button.

I was sifting through the online version of your manual on Toyota's website, or the horrible replication of a manual, trying to find something similar to the reboot I saw in the online version of my Prius v, and couldn't, but definitely saw the PWR VOL button on pictures of what I did see.

When I had access to Toyota TIS I saw several TSBs for various Entune systems, which seems to be used across different models. Might be worth a shot to visit a dealer...

Yeah I need an entune update for sure, they released 2.2 in late March. But does that affect the Nav? I thought they were two separate things?

The update is mostly nav system fixes. There was a TSB with the details posted last month.

Navigation data update is different from system firmware/software update. Map update is going to cost you. Firmware/software should be free for warranty concerns.

I think this applies to the Nav in the Prius c too regarding map data updates:

    2012 Prius v Navigation updates | Page 4 | PriusChat

Current available version is 12.1, which to my understanding is for 2012. New 2013 version should come out in or around October.

NOTE: Please verify the correct ACN part number with your dealer. They might not know the other one. I'll check if it applies to Prius c if I get a TIS account again....

I had just come from an engine thread and thought you were referring to the pwr button for extra power to the wheels.

Don't worry. My wife, son, and I test drove a Prius c once, and once only. It was a little small for us. I had to make sure I didn't put my foot in my mouth!

Here are the problems which the TSB for Entune 2.2.0 fixes:

2012 model year vehicles equipped with a Display Audio Navigation System and Entune (version
less than 2.1.0) may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
    • Vehicle orientation slow to update after vehicle startup
    • Five Bing™ search results are not all displayed on the map
    • Voice recognition destination request does not provide feedback
    • Voice recognition for POI search displays "Function not available" message
    • "Car Multimedia" device name cannot be changed

2012 – 2013 model year vehicles equipped with a Display Audio Navigation System (Non-HDD) and
Entune (version less than 2.2.0) may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
    • “Address non-navigable” message when using the navigation system
    • Head unit audio does not switch correctly between day and night modes
    • Dynamic re-route navigation setting is not remembered after ignition cycle
    • Traffic Radius Filter setting is not remembered after ignition cycle
    • “You have arrived at your destination” message gives incorrect side of street
    • Head unit does not display incoming iPhone iOS 6 text message sender ID
    • Head unit does not fully display incoming iPhone iOS 6 text messages which include carriage
    returns (line breaks)

Updated system software is now available to address these conditions. Follow the repair procedure
in this bulletin to install the latest software version.

Uh right, none of that addresses my blinking map issue though. I am fully aware that I need the entune update.

I haven't tried holding down the Power/Volume button. I will tonight.

If the car is only one month old, should I really have to pay for a map update, if that is even what the issue is?

After watching the video, it looks like you are having issues retaining a GPS lock. A reflash of the ROM could fix this problem... so best case, the Entune update fixes your problem... worst case, you have a faulty GPS locator.

Its now also dropping out of routng entirely. Halfway thru the holland tunnel this morning it just stopped routing and reverted to only showing the map. :cautious:

Definitely sounds like the app didn't install correctly, or gps is dropping (since it was in the tunnel). A refresh of Entune *should* fix this as it will reflash the rom.

didn't look like a GPS fix to me, a lost in GPS wouldn't cost the map to blink what will happen is the vehicle icon will start drifting away from the road (esp when Map matching is not done right), otherwise the veh icon will be appear on a different road.

This is a graphics problems, issue with redrawing the map. What are you doing when it happen? sounds like U have something playing in the background. Care to share what do you have connected. Did the upgrade to SW 2.2.0 help?

if not U better try to get the dealer to get U a new box.

I've been to New York/New Jersey. Isn't the Holland Tunnel very long and it is a given that the GPS signal would be lost? In that case the Nav would try to follow dead reckoning, if manufacturers are still making that available. I would expect routing to continue after the tunnel though....

Usually the GPS works even in the tunnel, my old Magellan did and so did the Garmin I was using until I bought this car a month ago. The issue is not only inside of the tunnel, its all around, and I'm noticing issues in other areas not related to the tunnel at all. Yesterday the screen was completely black, and today it looked like this.

I will see what they say on Saturday.
