Toyota has done most of that for you already, since your car effectively has about a 2-gallon reserve.

Just remember that the ICE (gas motor) will be cycling on and off, so you'll want to avoid parking in grass or over other combustible material.

If you use the mechanical key, you can even lock the car in ready mode with the A/C running. I've done that for my pups before. Just be aware that on a really hot day, the traction battery with discharge in a few minutes, and the ICE will run frequently to re-charge and to keep itself warm.

 

Just make sure you leave a sign on your Window that says "ac is on". When people can't hear your engine on and see dogs inside, they'll rescue them by breaking your Window

Don't ever take your car back to that dealer.

There is a substitute for the above listed wrench floating around somewhere on the forum. Watch some YouTube Videos or read some "how-to" posts in this forum.
Whether or not you're going to do your own maintenance or have it done for you it is very important that you check your oil regularly.
I'd be lying if I said that I do this every fill-up, but I guarantee you I'll do so at least semi-regularly (like: every other fill-up.)
Also.....
Check with Amazon or Ebay and start shopping for air filters. You can get the OEM brand cheaper there and there are videos on this forum for replacing both the cabin and the engine air filters.
I don't remember what the periodicity is for these with Toyota, but I change mine with every other oil chance - which for me is about 10,000 miles.
I'm thinking that about $100 worth of tools and a good set of ramps (I use the $40 Rhino ramps) will allow for you to do all of the preventative maintenance on this car out to about 120,000 miles.

This is one time that the Canadians have done better than the Okies.

 

I do produce shopping and always leave the AC on when I stop. The very first stop, the traction battery keeps the AC on for over 15 minutes (battery gauge is almost full). When the battery gauge goes down to 2, the engine will kick in and once it goes up to 3 bars, the engine stops again and cycle through like this. BTW, I only use ECO mode, so the fan speed is not as high as in POWER mode and I set AC at 72 degree on AUTO.
