Code meaning?

    So I got my 2012 Prius started worked for a while, then loss of power and got this code P0A0F. A big black cloud also came out of the exhaust.


    Any idea what it means?



    Just changed the oil, there was way too much of it, it also smelts like petrol and now I'm going to get new spark plugs as they are in very bad condition and are wet.



    *UPDATE*

    About 90% sure the guy I previously bought the car had poured in diesel into the Prius.

    Changed the sparks plugs, HUGE ABOUT OF C02 EMISSIONS black cloud and all for a minute took her for a short drive car felt a bit bad but then adjusted drove okay then. Drove for a short amount only

    Will do more tests tomorrow as I got home late. Hopefully it will all be good.

    Also I'd like to add that there was way too much oil the oil also smells like petrol, the spark plugs are in very bad condition and are wet.

    193km so rougly 120 miles but I bought the car broken so yeah.

    Given the failure of the engine to run and the other issues you noted, I suggest that you have an engine compression test or leak down test performed to see if the engine has any serious mechanical issues like worn piston rings.

    If you looked closely at the chart RRxing posted for you, you might be wondering, "hey, how do I get those extra three digits that help pinpoint the code meaning?" The answer is, that's called the INF code, and you can go back with your code reader and pull it.

    In case you're wondering even more, "hey, that chart is kind of like fortune cookies, where could I find actual troubleshooting steps to start with the code I've got, test things, and find out what my problem is?" the answer is: your repair manual on techinfo.toyota.com.

    But even from the fortune cookies we can see they almost all can involve the Sequential Fuel Injection system. Clearly your problem is too much fuel, not too little, so the googled thing earlier about the fuel pump relay was not only a fortune cookie but also wrong. My money would be on an injector (or more than one) that is not completely closing, so that fuel leaks from it. The engine floods, is hard to start, makes black sooty exhaust, and leaked fuel ends up in the crankcase oil.

    That will also quickly trash the catalytic converter, so best to get it fixed promptly.

    I have a spare set of Gen 1 / Gen 2 injectors, but I guess they're probably different for the Gen 3 1.8L.
