Didn't know what to make of this message on the display initially. Took a look at the grille and found a 1" rock wedged in there, keeping it from opening fully. Once dislodged, all's well

Good thing you didn't get a live bobcat or coyote stuck in there. A small rock is much less work to pry out.

You could probably notch one blade right where the cord comes through.

I love my block heater: poor man's' plug in.

Yeah. The dealer in Alaska did that.
Subsequently it caught fire and the source appeared to be that EBH cord.

Can you find out if the block heater has an effect on the inverter coolant?
I'm pretty sure it was the inverter coolant temp or plane ole inverter temp that would start the ICE real fast in sub 0*C ambient temps / ole PiP

Any kinda heat I can get in winter, I'll take!

Block heater is just heating engine coolant.

It's sure good to know that it checks it's self and reports an error.
I do not miss grill blocking.

There are other types of coolant heaters out there that splice into a coolant hose, so heating the inverter coolant is possible. They might need to be modified since you don't want the inverter coolant getting as hot as the engine coolant does; that's why they are separate.

Would any amount of inverter coolant heating be beneficial? I'm thinking no, not sure.

Yeah, most electronics simply don't like heat, and might do better with things cold.

I believe that too cold is just as hard on the lectrical as too warm. Resistance goes up as temps drop. Check ohm on multimeter leads at -5 F than heat it up to 70 F and check them again. The cheaper the leads the better for noticeable results.
The reason I asked was that I had a real hard time with my leased 14 PIP in temps below 0 F keeping the ICE off.
I could do it by increasing the distance driven at below 5 mph for the first mile to 2 miles. Than I also had to keep the car below 35 mph for another mile or 2. Than it would drive normally in EV for the rest of the 8 to 10 EV miles I had left.. ( YEAH, I know that was a not recommended EV mode for the PIP )

Today I used the heat pump for the second time logging how many EV miles it used ) about an EV mile every 4 or 5 minutes.
I also checked the grille levers and they were open. I even drove it down the driveway and checked again, they were still open.

Anyone know the grille block close parameters?

I do not know what vehicle you have, since your profile says Other non-hybrid. There is a video on the Gen 4 shutters that shows that at a certain low temperature they stay partially open so they do not freeze shut.

    thanks
I'll have to check the owners man for our plus
I just found them 2 days ago while pulling stray leaves out of the grille
It appears that they are stuck open. I'll keep checking for a while to see if I can figure out why before I bring it in

On the Gen 4 there is an error on the MID when they are stuck.

Both of us have different ideas about which dash lights mean what. There sure are a lot more toys in the prime than the PIP had. I it took me several months to figure out most the PIP dash toys, along with about 10 GB of pics and videos.
edit: so far I've not noticed a grille block dash light
service rep didn't know about it passive grille block and neither did the mechanic he asked.
I'll have to try to find the one or two hybrid certified mechanics on staff (fingers crossed)

Is that a gen4 or prime dash? I noticed the plus has a different dash set than John1701a's advanced

I haven't been able to find either that CHG/ECO/PWR below the 82 F (in the picture above) screen on my dash
In John's video I linked to that space is different 0 10 20 under the 7 F ( I can't find that one either in our plus )
