Head Gasket - Good shops in the Minneapolis Area?

    for the exhaust smell.. check the catch can hose. mine were off gassing like crazy.. car emitted a gas/exhaust smell once warmed up..

    PH-1 ?

    I did notice the hose attached to the PCV valve was leaking oil or something, was all wet underneath. I'm just too lazy to take off all hoses, clamps, intake tube and re run the hose. I was getting inpatient at the time. With all the different diameter size fittings.

    Just wanted to update...stop leak has maybe helped a little. We don't have the shudder anymore, but it not winter anymore either. Not sure if that's a big factor or not. It's still losing antifreeze though and there is still some sort of exhaust manifold issue and it's getting worse. I assume it's a manifold as we can't fin any problems with the exhaust. Sounds just like the cracked manifold we had years ago in our Honda Civic. CarSpec quoted $3500 as a rough estimate for a head gasket. They won't drop a new engine in. I've only found one place that will but they won't give me a price until they see the car. It's 8 years old. I'm probably looking at battery replacement before too long.

    Any suggestions for how to proceed? Drive it as is? Do the head job? Drop a used engine? Trade the damn thing in?

    I know I know, it's up to me...ok what else should I be considering as I weight the decision?

    Some follow up questions:

    • Did you get your house built or further along?
    • Are you able to DIY?
    • Still looking for a shop?
    • What’s your budget?

    With oil consumption and head gasket issues, I’d look at LKQ and see what their cost is for an engine. Once the blocks would be swapped, I’d take the egr cooler and valve off of the old engine for future use;).

    Progress on the house yes, but we won't be done until early August. I am able to DIY, but not until the house is done. I swapped a Toyota 22RE engine once back in college. I'm no expert but I'm sure I can do it. Yes I'm still looking for a shop. Called a few and I get all kinds of responses from "it's not worth fixing" to "it's definitely worth fixing" and everything in-between, but mostly "we won't touch it." My budget is whatever it costs to fix it...but I don't know the point where it's not worth fixing anymore.

    I don't think I'm losing oil. Just A/F.
