Has anyone hardwired a dash cam to the OBD? What battery does that run off of? If it runs off the main battery (not the 12V) wouldn't there be enough power to keep the camera running 24/7? Trying to decide if I should get a dash cam with parking mode or just keep it running constantly.

Here is my installation of the Black Box purchased from Amazon (with GPS Antenna)

The power is via an included 12-foot cable with standard automobile power plug. I have it routed around the left side of the windshield to the aux power port on the rear of the console.

I doubt the camera draw will deplete the 12v if the car is driven daily.

that's a bad Idea, I know first hand. I bought two Anker 26 amp hour USB batteries and hooked up my two Wheel Witness Dash Cams. One battery hooked to both dash cams lasted 12 hours, after 12 hours I swapped out the battery with a freshly charged battery and charged the depleted one and repeated the process. After about a month of doing this the heat inside the car damaged the front dash cam the rear one was covered by the hatch so no damage to that one. I have since abandoned the 24/7 scenario. I ended up buying a new dash cam to replace the damaged one since warranty coverage does not cover heat damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It seems that the Wheel Witness Dash Cam has a battery and not a capacitor, and I read that battery dash cams aren't as heat-resistant as capacitor dash cams. Do you think A119 (which has a capacitor) would still run into the heat problem?

You're right; unfortunately I don't drive consistently on weekends. Which is why I was hoping to find out whether the OBD is powered by the accessory 12V or the hybrid battery

Has anyone installed a dash cam on the front window with window tints on it? I'm concerned about the pressure applied to the tint and how it'll impact the tint in the long run. I've been looking and dash cams that sits on top of the rear view mirror as an alternative but they don't see as popular or as high quality as the ones you apply on the front windshield.

If you’re referring to pin 16 (BAT) of the Data Link Connector 3, according to the Electrical Wiring Diagram (EM32D0U, available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com), it’s supplied from the 7.5 ampere OBD fuse in the Instrument Panel Junction Block Assembly, which receives unswitched power from the 12-volt (auxiliary) battery, via the 60 ampere JB-AM fusible link.

My new A119's front and rear (only front shown here.) Got the new Dash Cam Viewer software because Registrar Viewer won't display GPS from the A119

Hello everyone... I just purchased an Anker Roav C1. The prior posts are pretty helpful in terms of routing the cable.

However, has anyone thought about attaching the dash cam directly to the center plastic housing for the sensor instead of the windshield? I figured that it would keep the dash cam centered and protect it from direct heat.

Other option would have been to attach it onto the top of the windshield where the tiny dots are and low enough that the camera view is obviously not obstructed by the dots.

I've often wondered if it would be possible or prudent to mount the camera "over the shoulder" rather than to the windshield. My thought would be to mount it to the headrest bar so it is centered in the car. This way, even the dashboard is being recorded. You say I didn't stop at the sign but my speedo reads "0".

What do you all think? Is this possible and/or plausible?

I believe that the jury watching the video view through the windshield can see for themselves that the car-camera unit came to a stop.

I tried it but with poor results. I am getting higher quality mounted on bottom of visor using bungee cords. Then I can flip it up so it is not visible to parking lot thieves.

I’ve ordered a part to put dual USB ports in passenger vanity light.

im using a Falcon Zero F170+ dash cam , it's mounted behind the rear-view mirror so i dont have it in my face ... i purchased an Armortek mirror mount to achieve this : Dash Cam Mirror Mount – Fits Falcon F170HD,Rexing V1, Z-Edge, Old Shark, YI, Amebay,KDLINKS X1,VANTRUE and Most Other Dash Cameras | AmorTek | Tech for Love

the dash cam is powered from the rear 12V plug , no wire visible anywhere. The dash cam is very close from the windshield , just low enough so it dont block the sensor behind the rear-view mirror .. the only downside is we can see a bit of the black plastic from the factory Toyota camera system in the field of view of my dash cam but no big deal. I like it that way.

I’ve discussed this previously for the liftback Prius, but the information should also apply to the Prius Prime. You may also need IG or ACC switched power, and the EWD shows where to get it.
On the bottom of the lid for the fuse box in the engine compartment (Owner’s Manual, page 631).
