I purchased the Denso Toyota Hand Held Intelligent Tester 2. Prices vary, so shop carefully. Also make sure it csomes with the software needed for your Prius. This will give you an idea of what you're looking for:

Hi Chapman.. you've helped me a few times and Bob Wilson has helped me immensely years ago on my old 2002 Gen 1.
A little current history since I have been on PC. I have rebuilt the traction battery several times and always had a notebook with xp in it running TechStream minivci. But about a little over a year ago, the AC condense drain came unplugged somehow and filled the back floorboard with about 2 inches of water before I knew it and guess where the notebook was... yep.No more nice troubleshooting tool. Long story short, Explorer tranny broke so I bought a 2011 Prius and in maybe 6 months wife totaled it due to not seeing well(failing cataract surgery) and not saying anything (plus the beginning of Alzheimer's). Bought a 2010 Prius V for me to use in work and she just waited on me to rebuild the traction battery again while we got here through the surgeries etc). I got the battery rebuilt and the computer seems happy now but need to really take a look as to why it wasn't happy for a while after the rebuild.
    Now the problem.
I now have a dell Inspiron 6000 running XP I just bought to set up another TS on. I remember a software called xhorse but don't have a clue as to how I had to install it. I can't seem to find much online on how to install that doesn't have to crack. Don't think I had to do anything except the xhorse and a file. but that may have come with the cable (which should still be OK). Not sure where the disc was if there was one.
Is there any tips, links, pointers I might get from you on what I need to do to get TS on this old XP I bought specifically for this. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware TS could be run on win 7 or I would have bought a win 7 laptop.
BTW, absolutely love the JBL sound on the Prius V, Bluetooth (for maps and playing my playlist on Amazon music)backup cam and especially the 49-54 MPG(depending on if summer or winter) I get on my 250 miles/day route over the typical 40-45mpg with the 2002. (still like the form factor of the 2002, better visibility and higher ground clearance). Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

    Update:
Yipeee!... I knew I had to have that minivci software somewhere...! I searched several computers and found the files (I had copied off the original VCI xhorse disk) on my office computer. Took a while as XP is extremely slow on the Dell 6000 laptop but I did get the files copied via the SanDisk USB drive.. I had no clue which file to install, but gut feeling was I probably chose what looked like the latest version. That folder had only two files.(the MVCI driver install setup and the main app file) I read somewhere to install the driver first and not plug anything up yet. The diver install went as planned (seems like there was a readme file in one of the folders which I used as a model). Then installed the main app. I'm now looking at what seems to be exactly what I used on the old XP laptop. As far as I know, success, but will have to locate my Mini-VCI cord to see if it links up like it did on the old XP. I expect it should.

Now on the bright side, I have Google dive links for all the files which may help someone get the program back on their XP if needed.
I'll update again once I get time to locate the cord and put it to the test. At this point, I'm very confident this is going to work. as it did before,
