I'm not sure if this is the best way to ask, but you seem to be very affluent with information on the 2010.
I'm looking to block my grill in CNY right now in the winter. If I've read right, I need to keep the upper grill on the driver's side uncovered. Do you know if that's accurate? Thanks so much!!

I’m inclined to leave upper grill completely open. It’s quite a small area, and that’s where the inverter rad is. I do 50% of lower down to freezing, 100% if it’s steadily below freezing

I have a question, so my gen 2 is little louder than use to be and according to my research it looks like the crankshaft bearing is the culprit so the question is what I should do in terms of how to deal with this, can i keep driving like that, can this be fix or do i am about to need a new engine, any help will be highly appreciate

So stupid me, I just figured out last oil change I grabbed the wrong gallon of oil from my storage and ended using my gen 3 oil by mistake on my gen 2 (0w20) so I did the oil change again with the 5w30 and problem solved noise gone hopefully no damage was done, wrong oil was only 1 month in the engine.

There's been a few 2nd gen owners that switched to 0W20. I think you're being prudent though; I've been tempted to switch to something like 5W20 off-and-on. But Toyota 0W20 all I've every put in, it's had zero consumption between changes so far, so I better not jinx it lol.

That’s the Yaris engine . It can be dealt with but more folks than not are going to want to remove the engine assy to do it. So I’d look at a JDM low mileage take out . They still make this engine today. Plentiful in JDM trim they’re also a very high HP output engine for the rally car etc. good luck

Mendel, my thanks to you for your many helpful comments to my PriusChat postings through the years. Can you suggest where I might find a pin-out diagram for the MAP sensor on a 2010? I'm trying to trace an open ground lead problem (P0108) using a wiring sniffer tool from my office.

Hey Mendel, I'm still riding on the OEM brakes at 125K and they seem to have a lot of life left. I have no reason to believe the back calipers are sticking because MPG but read some info saying the bolts are prone to sticking. Worth taking apart and lubing before Midwestern winter?

Yes, definitely they’re overdue. Regardless of pad thickness, the recommended service interval is 30k miles or 3 years, in US. You can stretch a year or two, but periodic clean and relube is good. Do be cautious with rear brake assembly, and it’s a good idea to disconnect 12 volt neg for duration of service. And pump pedal before reconnect.

I already got a new radiator. I also suspect that my heater core is clogged too. I may just do a heater core bypass. I don't need heater here in winter anyways. I will still have to use bar's leak because it does seal the head. I just need to replace radiator once a year or so. I just want to get through this chip shortage.

Think it’d be best you start a thread. I think if needed you might be able to flush out stop leak with 50:50 vinegar:water mix.

I just feed garden hose water into the lower hose of the expansion tank, It should be the same as flushing it by the lower radiator hose right? So I completely opened the drain valve / petcock and then force water into the lower hose of expansion tank. I felt a lot of pressure and still the drain valve / petcock only dripping NO stream of water. Does it confirm the radiator is clogged by the Bar's leak?

Hi Mendel ... I guess I will message you for this question. I only have water in my entire system now so I guess I can do the flush in house. I just want to confirm my radiator is clogged. I opened the petcock / drain valve, only dripping drop by drop of water come out. It should be a stream of water come out. That is the first sign its clogged?

Used the Oxi-burst no name brand from Superstore for $4.50 for a tub. Basically sodium carbonate, sodium percarbonate. Urnex coffee espresso machine cleaning cleaners have the same ingredients. Just used Oxi-burst on my coffee stained french press micro filters and urns, stainless steel came out like new.

thx again, i competed the EGR clean a month or so ago. was going to write up some notes for everyone's benefit. the oxy-clean worked, but took overnight soaking and a few clean/spray cycles.

Hey Mendel. The prius chat app for Android is not working for me today and I cannot find it in the Google play app store. Have you heard anything about this?

Hi Mendel. Sorry, I didn't see an option for Private Message. I'm refurbishing a 2004 Gen 2 Prius. I'm in Vancouver and trying to find a reasonably priced 12V battery (on a very tight budget). You had mentioned something about Canadian Tire having a Motomaster that might work and you considered buying it. Did you ever get a new battery? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Have not replaced yet, but still likely to go with CT option.

Hi Mendel Leisk, Private message is not working for me. I saw your advice that toyota 1F7 Classic Silver Metallic is a match for the silver part of the alloys and Hubcaps. Do you know the paint code for the black part of the hubcaps?

Like the song, black is black? Though there ARE colour-match blacks. I’ve picked up universal black touch up pens in past. One complication might be mat vs satin vs gloss though.
