    Hello,

My 2010 Prius just turned over 100K. What service is a must have vs. an add on that the stealership is trying to get me to do...?

    Thanks in advance

I think it's 60K and 120K rather than 100K (if we are talking miles, not km) when the "big service" is due. Luckily there is no timing belt misery, at least on in "c".

there's nothing major at 60k. it all starts at 100, then 120, then 150

The 60K biggie would be the full brake inspection. It's the second; they're every 30K.

And the two attachments extrapolate to 240K miles.

I live in a small community with few independent mechanics familiar with Prius. How much would the stealership charge for this? How long would it take...? Last time I was there, they recommended a throttle cleaning...?

My 2010 Prius is near 100,000 miles. I will consider egr cleaning along with spark plug change at 120,000, not before. I know others on Prius chat wouldn't wait. Just giving my contrary opinion.

It's not really a MUST, but a strong recommendation. At least shortly after.
A dealership probably would not clean cooler, maybe the other things, but the would replace it.
If they did, it would probably be more in labor than a new one.
Do you have any mechanical skills? The work is not really that hard to do.

That route is likely to end with frustration and/or a LOT of expenditure. DIY (or a game independent mechanic) is the way to go. Watch @NutzAboutBolts videos (pinned at top of 3rd gen maintenance forum), on EGR pipe cleaning (good first step, gives you an idea of the condition of the rest), full EGR cleaning, AND the intake manifold cleaning. And Oil Catch Install, when the dust settles.

    Ok...thanks, everyone...
This is what I'll probably get done at 100K
    • Throttle Body Cleaning (DIY)
    • EGR Circuit Cleaning
    • Intake Manifold Cleaning
    • Replace Engine Coolant
    • Replace Inverter Coolant
    • Replace Transaxle Fluid
    • Oil Change
    • Oil Catch install
I'll try to do the Throttle Body cleaning myself. The rest, I'll need to get a mechanic to do...

What else? Is there anything else I'm missing? How much do you think it would cost to have that all done? Is there anything on this list I can put off until 120K?

    Thank you.

LOL Louisville, KY. We have independent mechanics, but I'm not sure many are all that familiar with hybrid cars. I've taken my car to the dealership for all maintenance.

Okay, I take you are NOT mechanically inclined? Or just don't want to do it?
You could either visit, or phone each mechanic and ask if they are familiar with the Prius and if they can do the work.
There may be another Prius owner close to you that is willing to help you do the work.

And unfamiliar with the EGR chores on that list, who knows.
