i am looking for a cargo cover for my 2018 Toyota Prius Two and want to make sure which kinda to get.

my 2007 prius had a notch just behind the seats where the main cover section (where the cover rolls up into) dropped into the notch (see 1st & 2nd images). you pulled the handle edges back and down into the curve and let it snap forward.

my 2018 prius has a different connection for the cover unit (see 3rd, 4th images). it seems to be a handle and not a notch, more like the cover would have a cord to catch the handle sticking out.

if you've bought one recently, which kind did you buy? are there adapters to attach to my my handles so a 2007 style will work??

    thanks

It'll accept either type. The Ts and knobs for attaching the lightweight cover pop out and allow you to put in the rollout type. I prefer the lightweight type since it's stretchy and will accommodate oversized items easier. And, if you want to stow it, it takes almost no space.

jerry, thx for your experience. i thought the T bars would pop out, but i hadnt figured out how to do so. if one takes them out (pls pass along any ideas on how to do so), do the ends of the rollout style push in so they will fit in the rectangular recesses? on my 2007, the top side of the recess was open so the rollout cover just dropped in.

They just pop out but the first time they are tight. It takes some rocking.
Here's a not so great picture of the T so you can see what's hidden.

And here's the knob, which is a little different but works the same way.

muchas gracias. when i saw that little "pin" (the one visible above your thumb), i figured that is what it was. but it didnt move much. i'll price covers and go w/ the best deal.

btw, my 2018 prius package two is averaging about 50+ mpg since i bought it in december 2020. in town mpg is better than 450 miles on highways.

That's pretty similar to what my wife is getting in her 2017 two. We got hers in August last year. She loves it. Way better than the 2007 that she also loved.

LOL!!! I had to think about that one but now I know what I did. I thought about responding to it on the thread where you put it but then forgot all about it. It was in the "quote basket" when I inserted erperez's quote and I didn't notice it at the time. Oops! At least I came back in time to edit it out, so now people will see your question above and think, "What the heck is bisco talking about?" :ROFLMAO:

I don't think anyone questions my sanity. I'm pretty sure they all know I'm nuts.

So since we've moved on to cookies and questioning sanity - maybe I won't be scolded for going back to the original question:

What kind of "cargo covers" (or whatever they're called) ARE available?

We have a new-to-us 2017 (three) that has attaching points for what looks to be a roll-up style cargo cover. The foam base under the rear carpet for the jack and spare tire even looks to have a cutout to store it. That said, none came with the car. do not know if it was an option, or if the original one was lost.

I'm sure my friendly local Toyota dealer can order and sell me one for $500 or $600 bucks. (Probably a slight exaggeration.) But are aftermarket ones that actually fit this vehicle available?

Our Prius is black on black with huge greenhouse windows - so I was even considering a WHITE cargo cover to make the car a little less efficient at solar heat gain here in Texas.

    So - what's available?

Maybe not. I recall they were hard to track down in the parts database for some reason. @Elektroingenieur might come through.

2017 trim three is supposed to have a spare tire, so if yours didn't have one, you got took.

As for the cargo cover, the trim 2, 2 eco, and 3 come with the lightweight fabric cargo cover. But they do have the ability to accept the rollup tonneau cover like the older generations. They don't come in white and I'm not sure white would help. But sunshades for the windshield would help and I think there are also ones made for the hatch window.

    I guess I wasn't clear.

There IS a spare tire (space saver - meh) that came with the vehicle.

What I intended to convey was that the foam "holder" that has places for the spare tire, jack, and even the towing eye - ALSO has an indentation that looks as though one could store a roll-up style cargo cover there while it isn't in use as a cover.

I didn't find anything on Rock Auto. Didn't try the other likely aftermarket auto parts sites.

Amazon DOES show a couple for $90-$135, but PC won't let me insert the links here.

Just search on "Cargo cover Prius" and your year.

You might do better on Ebay. But I haven't checked it. Gotta get back to work. :)

    Thanks for the info Elektroingenieur

The $260 for the rolling cover sounds a little to OEM for me.

I did find two (at least) on Amazon that get mostly good reviews (except for one sad sack who is complaining that "you have to remove parts to make this work" - which would be true for any rolling cover replacing a hook-on fabric one. Prices from $90 to about $135.

I sprang for the $90 one as it sounded as good as the more expensive one. I'll let folks know how it works when it arrives.

Even if durability isn't that good, I don't think that's a news flash. Having worked with these "window shade" style retractable covers - none of them are very robust - not even factory ones. Lean or drop a heavy item on them near the center, and any of them will bend and have a "hop" to them. For than matter, if you extend it too briskly, you'll cause the same problem.

Better to trash and have to replace a $90 one than a $260 one!

If the link from Amazon works, here it is:

I'm not sure if my post is in the right place but I ordered one from Amazon which looked like the first example, its like a big window shade. The only thing is it fits 2019 thru 2021. The name is Powerty cargo cover for $100. Don't know if it will fit your 2018 or not. Mine looked exactly like the Toyota one that cost $500. You may contact them and see if it will fit your model or ask if they make one that fits. The ends fit into the slots and are adjustable to fit different models.
