Are the door lock buttons on the driver’s door handle to be illuminated like they are on the passenger door handle?

No it's not supposed to be all illuminated. There isn't anything wrong with your switches. Toyota took those lights out for whatever reason.

Yeah they used to be on 2017-2019 models.

You can also accidentally turn-off those lights by cranking the dimmer switch all the way down. Only your dashboard and radio will be lit, all other switch lamps will be off - including your PARK button. You need to go one up on the dimmer switch to get the lights back.
Don't know if they fixed that on the 2022; that's how it works on the 2021.

Thank you for the pictorial explanation of different models. I have owned all three iterations of the door handle switches on my 2017PP Premium, 2020 PP LE, and 2021 PP Ltd. But to be honest, I have not noticed any difference in those three models on the switchboard illumination until I read about it on PC. Nor have I ever been inconvenienced by the lack of illumination in the latest model. Admittedly, I rarely drive at night, but even when I do drive when the switches are illuminated, I can't think of any time, I actually had to look down to operate any of those switches.

BTW, did you know the switches are all interchangeable, but retrofitting older models illuminated switched onto the newer models will cost you $$$.

Thanks everyone for all the info.

I just wanted to be sure it was not an issue that I should make a warranty claim for.

We were picking someone up with our 2010, at night: outside doors were locked, and I can recall looking down at driver's door arm rest: there was one speck of light, impossible to even tell what button it was. Toyota fail.

I have not done any switches to the switches:) Here's some info from an owner that did.

You have no reason to switch to newer switches. Your PP is a 2017 model. Out of the three switches, you showed photos, I think the 2017 model one is the most informative and functional. I could not open the link you posted. I don't have a facebook account.

I have a 2018 Prime and it looks like the 2017. Just FYI.

But for 2018, Toyota removed the silver trim around the power driver’s seat switches.

The parts for the 2017 model, parts#84040-47070 were used through December 2018. Maybe it was mid-model-year change for the 2018 model, or maybe the 2018 model production was finished on Dec. 2018 using the same panel as the 2017 model. And the 2019 and the 2020 models were using parts#84040-47090 from December 2018 through July 2020.

Again, I must have had all three iterations of the switches on my 2017, 2020, and current 2021, but I honestly can not say that I remember any difference.

Good info to know. So like the oil filter - some early 2017s had canister, then they all had spin on. Thx.

Possibly. My car is an October build though.

That is within the 2018 December cut-off for the parts#84040-47070 used for the 2017 model meaning it must have been used for at least some of the 2018 models. The question is are there any 2018 model PP built after Jan 2019? If not, then both 2017 and 2018 share the same switch panel.

Too bad "Team Toyota" or whatever their name was, have departed this forum; would be interesting to hear their take on this "progression".

Again, my 2010 is even worse: IIRC there's ONE effing pinpoint of light, completely unidentifiable in a dark car.
