Is this going to be a DIY head gasket job? If yes, please add a camcorder to your list:p

150k when misfire started and now it's close to 160k. Very minimal oil consumption, like 1 qt in 15k miles. Was using M1 synthetic 0w20 and changed every 10k and later used M1 extended synthetic and changed every 15k with oil filter changed every 7.5k. Engine is not abused like my '95 Integra GSR which reliably pull to 8k RPM or clutch dumped at 4k RPM everyday for 300k miles.

Thanks. I wish he listed the brands and part numbers to save me some time. :)

Yes. All DIY. Hopefully, I don't need to pull the engine out since I don't have engine stand or cherry picker. It'll be about 2 weekends job and see what I can do with photos but probably not video.

Oil sucked into combustion from under throttle body intake catch filling over time from EGR?
Can thru butterfly or after removal
It's also all over valves waiting to get sucked in

Could it in fact be coming from PCV? I'm thinking next time I'm under there for and oil change to pull both ends of the PCV hose off, and maybe it'll drain out? Not sure. (n)

I saw some oil there when I cleaned the intake manifold but it's mostly dried up sticky and no chance of going up. In hindsight, I don't think one needs to do it. I should look into installing a catch can but it'll be hassle to remove every 2 years for smog check.

I think I'll order Beck/Arnley 032-3038 head gasket kit, 016-1075 head bolts, copper spray and grey RTV for now. Let's see if I need anything else after opening up. Maybe I'll also change valve stem seals while I have the head off.

If you're ok with OCC down near the current hose location, ok with accessing from below, and it's air-tight version with tight connections:

Maybe smog check inspection won't even notice it, and you're not polluting any more.

How long have you owned your Prius? Our 2010 was smog checked in 2015 for registration. It will have to be smog checked this December as well.

    FYI(y).

Im just waiting for rhe newer shape gen4 models to become affrdable. My car runs great now after dealer did the gasket but as you and other prius owners know. The ride is very noisy. Lots of outside noise. Driving l.a to vegas once a week with all these trucks to my right kills my ears. Will be glad to get rid of it begining 2018

I dont like the look of the gen4 prius. I suggest you take a look on groupon or craigslist. You should find a smog place for 20 dollars or so.

Just the title got me. 297,000 miles???? I've never kept a car pass 170k. I'd be extremely happy if I can keep my 13 up to 200k with just regular syn oil changes.

Have you tried getting quieter tires and maybe sticking more foam, like dynamat, into the door panels?
