Wondering if anyone here can help me...

I have a Gen 2 Prius, and the Combination meter is shot..

I'm based in Hong Kong, and my model is a European NHW20R.

Toyota says that the part I'm looking for (83291-47150) is no longer available, so I was wondering if anyone here has any idea on where I can source one, or if the combo meter from other models will work? i.e. Other 2003-2009 models from other markets.

    Any help would be great!

You should be able to get a used one from a car dismantler/wrecker, but trying to obtain one with the correct distance in the ODO could be an issue. You can use a 2006-2009 but you will need to replace the light cluster as well. A 2004-2005 should just drop in.

Can I ask what is wrong with your current one?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I think the dismantler/wrecker route will be the way I have to go.

The problem with the current one is that my speedometer lights have stopped working - from my research it seems to be a fairly common issue with this model.

Is there anyone out there who has experienced this combination meter & light cluster replacement previously?

There are quite a few people in the US who have had this problem, if you want to search.

Also, even though it talks about a slightly different problem, click on the "Combination Meters that stop at 299,999 miles, Who's affected and what you can do about it." link in my signature for the background.

You may also find this link: "T-SB-0172-09 Combination Meter - Intermittent Display" of interest. The last page has information about repairing, if that is your skill set.

Thanks - I'll keep reading to see what I can find out.. I think what I'll ultimately need to find out is if I can install a slightly newer combination meter from the US market (which seem to be readily available) without screwing my car up!

Thanks - I have checked eBay but i can only seem to find parts for American cars - does anyone have any idea whether or not these are transferable across models?

Does anyone know how different are they from model to model/market to market?

Any help here would be awesome - this is a great forum, thanks all for your input so far

I would pursue repairing yours. Apparently it's not a difficult repair, and the repairs seem to be robust. Did you look for repair shops on eBay? If you can't find an onshore shop, consider overseas air freight.

You should be able to find someone to dismantle the car. If you're decent with tools, it's a couple of hours of somewhat tricky DIY, with an airbag removal included. The car will be down a minimum of a few days including shipping time. But you'll retain your odometer setting and you know it'll be compatible.

The car will still drive without a functioning meter. You may need to hold the "start" button up to three seconds to turn it off. I think there's something about the rear hatch not working, too.

how about ebay in a European country,or try this, with the car off next to the 12 volt battery is a black box, unplug the wire harness going to it (I think its a white plug) leave it off for about a min and plug it back in..see if that gets it working. .

Thanks --- Yes pulling the wire harness and replugging gets it working again, and is what I've been doing for the last few weeks as a temporary solution -- Ideally I'm hoping to fix it!

I'll dig deeper on ebay.. really proving to be a challenge at the moment!

Is Hong Kong metric or do they use British imperial unit?

In that case you could also consider Japan, Australia and New Zealand as a sources also. Is your car a RHD too?

Someone here once broke the wire off the white plug doing that. The harness is not made for switching duty.

In that case, why not unbolt a battery cable?

I've tried that before. It doesn't bring back the combination meter
