One thing that has been annoying me for a long time is a feature of entune, which works as follows:

As soon as a smartphone is plugged in (iPhone in my case), it starts playing the media from the device.

The use case which annoys me:

    1. I am listening to an FM channel.
    2. Suddenly, I realize that I need to plug in my iPhone to get data access for nav's traffic.
    3. As soon as I hook up the phone, the entune switches the music player from FM to iPod, which is not what I intended and is super annoying.

Is this something that annoys other people as well or am I odd one out?

Is there a way to disable this feature?

This can't be disabled. The only way to avoid it is to plug in the phone before starting the car according to others reports. Seems to be a common complaint.

I believe they built it considering that users would be plugging in iPods and not iPhones, and the only reason for plugging in an iPod would be play music.

Have you tried setting up your phone for wireless data access? This would eliminate the need to plug in your phone at all.

Just brought my car in for the 5,000 service and complained about it. The service advisor too me there's a setting in the iPhone to turn this off. If there is such a setting I could not find it

service advisor is an idiot, sorry

edit: I mean, this stuff isn't even Entune-related. When I had a failed Entune upgrade last year and nothing worked, all of the audio functionality was still there.

I had a loaner Prius a few months ago connected my phone via Bluetooth, I think it did this also. Also, it happened in my dad's Lincoln (using a cable) which I don't think use the same system as the Priuses do

what is the "it" that it was "also" doing? the Prius will automatically reconnect to a bluetooth audio source on power on if it was playing when the car was turned off. it will also attempt to automatically connect to any bluetooth phone in range for handsfree use. it will not, however, establish a bluetooth audio connection and begin playback unless you explicitly request it if the audio source at power off was something other than BT. i deal with this daily.

In my dad's Lincoln, the car will start playing a device as soon as you plug it in via USB, which is the original poster's complaint. However in my short experience with the loaner Prius, it would also autoplay via Bluetooth audio. Either way, it is not desired behavior, because it's actually not even playing what I want. I often listen to podcasts through a third-party app, and when I would turn on the car, It would end up trying to start playing through the Music app which would be some song that I paused days ago.

I guess we're just wishing that it would only start playing when I specifically command it to each time, and not just assume I want to "press play" via an iOS system call. (Sometimes iOS will remember that the podcast app is playing something, but often times it doesn't. )

As mentioned above, BT will only "auto"play when it is was playing before the car being turned off.

Agree, this is the functionality I see every single day with BT.
I do not hardwire connect my iPhone unless I'm in need of a battery recharge.

I am an iOS developer, and I know all the ins and outs of iOS and iPhones. I can assure you that there is no such setting, the advisor knew nothing about it so he just wanted to escape out of it. The toyota dealers need to be educated about the entunes system before they start advising.

I am facing the exact same issue as well. The entune hasn't implemented the audio sync of the iOS properly and hence this bug.

Like I mentioned earlier, if the Prius team is listening, they need to stop assuming that people are hooking up only iPods to the usb port. An iPhone is not just an iPod it has a lot more things involved.

When entunes interacts with iPhone, it needs to figure out the app playing the audio before starting to play instead of simply starting the music and start playing whatever's in there.

I have another family member who has another strange (and rather funny) situation with the auto play feature. When my sister is driving their Prius and goes to pickup her husband, when she gets in range of her husband's phone, it starts autoplaying even before he gets into the Prius. It really startled her the first time it happened.

It's just that it's still just a radio, and so I understand why it just autoplays since that's how a radio should work, but there are situations where the driver doesn't have the device that is connected to the Prius's bluetooth media, and does not realize the radio is on until they get in range of the person who's device is the media device paired with the Prius HU.

On a non-music related situation, I have found one way that media Bluetooth doesn't start automatically, but it is a rare case since I listen to video podcasts instead of music, and as such, video files won't autostart playing on my Android device unless the screen is on. So, even when I leave the HU in bluetooth mode when I turn on the Prius, there is no audio sound from the media connected Android device until I turn on the Android device at which point it starts playing the video podcast file. So, if I don't turn on the Android device, no sound.

Sorry, this is not true. I can tell you with 100% certainty that BT audio will connect automatically as soon as your phone establishes a connection with your car's BT, whether BT audio was connected before powering off or not. I never listen to music through my phone, yet every time I get into my car and drive, within 20-30 seconds, my radio will inevitably flip from AM/FM/Sat to BT audio every single time. It is SO annoying.

I would like my phone to ALWAYS connect to Phone and Internet and NEVER to Music, but I cannot find the setting to make those selections permanent. I came here looking for an answer to stop it from doing that. From what I can tell in your post, you must not be facing this same situation, but I wanted to provide some clarification to your post and let you know that I am facing the same issue that Jofo mentioned, and it most definitely is a real problem.

Does this behavior depend on the platform; i.e., iOS? My Blackberry does not automatically start playing music from the phone when the Bluetooth connects, and I think Android phones don't either. (Please, I don't need any more pooh-pooing of my Blackberry. All Bluetooth phone, messaging, e-mail, and media functionality, along with the Entune applications, work perfectly.)

No, this occurs with both Bluetooth audio and with USB audio sources. Toyota refuses to admit that it's a problem.

I have encountered this problem too on occasion. Was listening to FM radio station on power off.. then on restart it starts playing from bluetooth. Very annoying (also since the volume levels are different). Mine is an android phone. Have also had it switch to USB iPod.
