And check if your auto or homeowners insurance will pay for the replacement key - someone else on the forum was able to get reimbursed that way.

The dealerships are open tomorrow so I'm going to call each one to see how many of them have the ability to perform the Immobilizer reset procedure that requires the TIS Level 3 Security Professional subscription ($1095/year) and the NASTF Vehicle Security Professional Registry membership that is the prerequisite for the subscription. This would at the very least be a qualifier and indicator that they will not pull my chain. A 2-day subscription is $55 which may become an option for a willing and able dealership assuming they have the appropriate Techstream Scantool($20 cable and software from ebay). If I exhaust the dealerships I may try hitting up the local locksmiths to see if there is one with the know-how to get this done.

Is there a way to lookup TIS Security Professional subscribers in my area? Is there a "hookup" here? If so, I may just order the cable myself and perform the reset DIY style.

I wonder if I can have the dealership that offered the key and programming to let me leave with the free key they offered?

If you're in a large metro area?
Check some of the locksmiths in your area.

    Good LUCK!

FINAL UPDATE: So...after a week long battle the dealership finally surrendered. They made good on the free key and free programming. They called me this morning and said my car was ready to be picked up and there was absolutely no charge! So I have my 1 Smart Key enabled FOB and purchased two Smart key fobs via ebay(Silver logo $100 each) which will only be used as non-smart keys. (Lock/Unlock and placed in key slot for operation)

I sent them a few links. I'll share them here for future reference.

Thank you all for the information and encouragement! Sometimes you just have to stand your ground with the dealerships and they come around.

Congratulations for standing your ground and getting the results that you needed and wanted ! That does give me a little confidence that there are some dealers that will do the right thing, even if it takes some convincing !
