I had called on other batteries and LKQ core charge was $400.00 and a place near Jacksonville was $250.00. The overall price for this battery is acceptable, as long as it is in decent shape. Actually, it was from a 2016 prius C with 9,000 miles. I'm guessing that if it lasts 101 days without problems, then should be ok.

Go to this website AutoBeYours-South this is autobeyours.com in Scottsburg Indiana. They rebuild wrecked prises and part out what they can't repair. They may sell used battery packs-dont know but their phone number is on the website.

I'm late to this party. But I hope you actually called Toyota North America and asked if they could offer good will assistance for a new OEM battery. The combination of 4-5 years and 109k miles is one of the earliest I've read of a Prius needing a new traction battery and I think that they would help.

MelonPrius, thanks for reply. The car had actually been diagnosed 6 months earlier at a toyota dealer as needing new battery, and the mileage must have been much lower, probably just over 100,000 miles and since the car wound up with me then toyota must have been no help. To follow up, I drove 3 hours and bought the battery, with all documentation as to the car it came from, everything seemed legit. I drove home and removed the old, and installed the new battery in about one hour. Car drove well but I'm bringing it in and paying $99.00 to have it checked at a hybrid specialist shop, just to be sure all is well. I did not buy the car new so I really don't know how it is supposed to run, charge and drain as I'm driving. I have no clue as to how the battery bars should go up and down as the battery charges and discharges. I did keep the old battery, just in case. And the new one has a 101 day warranty. I'll post the results after it is checked out. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. BTW, I really love the car, easy to drive and park, unlike my other car, an expedition EL, and gets about 4 times better gas mileage. Does anyone know if i should take a long highway drive to fully charge the battery, or any other tricks that could help the battery?

Mainly just drive it and enjoy it.
After the engine starts your next 3 miles or so of the trip will have lower mileage until the engine gets up to operating temperature.

Follow up. Brought the car in to hybrid shop and the test took about 15 minutes and everything came back as being good. He had plugged a laptop into the car's port and read and recorded the info, and he later gave me a printout of all the previous codes. There were no new codes and he load tested the battery by turning on the a/c and said everything was as it should be. I hope he's right, the battery is a 2016 with 9,000 miles on it. The cost for the test was about $107.00. I asked if he could suggest any needed service and he said the transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles, and he quoted $100.00 to do that so I will probably bring it back to him in the near future. Thanks to all who responded, especially who suggested the used battery from a wrecked car, I had not even considered that.

It's also possible to test the HV battery yourself using the 'Dr Hybrid' (Formerly 'Dr Prius') App.
