@Jamesmlemay has Repair Manual now, I'm trying to help him with correct search string.

If the ice ecu is the one under the hood, it's impossible to see which color wire goes where. With out removing the boot and it looks like I wouldn't be able to get it back on. I'll have to view the manual at home on the computer. I couldn't find it while trying to search the 7000 pages on my phone.

Page 2397 looks like the start of the inspection.

Crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor seem to work in tandem, the readings of the two are used by the computers. It's over my head, just browsing.

If the code is the same plugged in and unplugged, it leads me to believe the crank sensor is an “open” circuit. Meaning the ecu isn’t seeing the sensor. I still have the sensor from my exploded engine. If you want it to try, pm me your address. I looked the sensor up on my AZ app and it’s terribly expensive.

I am thinking the ecu is bad. Wiring ohms out fine. Sensor tested good. Code is the same regardless whether or not the sensor is plugged in.

    James,

Are you taking CNC up on his offer of sending you a CPS to try?

I've been in electronics and automation for 33 years...Taking measurements on a sensor is a good way to provide a high percentage indication of a failed component when the measurements/readings show it to be bad..Unfortunately, a good reading on a sensor in NO WAY guarantees the sensor is functioning properly.

This has been learned many times, over and over, by many electronics techs. Just because a sensor measures good, doesn't mean it is good in actual operation.

THANK YOU! I've been there many times.
Fairly inexpensive and easy to change the sensor, then you'll know for SURE if the other one is bad.

Sorry I missed the post with the offer I believe. I had been looking on here with my phone as the computer has been left out at the garage. I appreciate it. I actually ordered one and it will be here today. Although I am quite confident that the sensor is good. Wont hurt to try.

The monitors/test on techstream get to the crank sensor and fail. After that the rest say incomplete. The MG spins like its going to crank the engine though. Like in the video on the thread I referenced above. I got in touch with the op and he said that he was not able to fix it and sold the car off.

If someone out there with techstream gets bored.... It would be sweet to find out if you unplug your crank position sensor and try to run the car, will it turn the engine over? That would help me determine if it is mechanical in the torque damper/transaxle area.

My offer is to send, at my expense, the crank sensor from my blown up Prius engine. PM me your address.

My Prius WILL spin the engine over with the sensor unplugged. I get an immediate P0335

I will send mine to him for free. If it fixes his car and he wants to repay me, thats fine. If it doesn’t fix it, or he doesn’t want to repay the shipping, that’s fine too.

Let’s not assume the sensor is good, let’s put another sensor in there and have the same problem, or have the ICE start and run. It’s going to be one or the other.

I have a second sensor. I didn't see the original offer. The new one came in today. Haven't tried it yet but if yours will crank the gas engine with the sensor unplugged then I am dealing with something else.

The internals of my original are toast. But I have most of the sensors and some of the electronics. Just too valuable to throw away.

To top it off the version of tech stream I was using is now asking for a new code. Even though I didn't connect to the internet. This is frustrating. 5000 is a lot of money to lose lol
