Two recalls done. 4 Hours for me. But I was at the largest Toyota Dealer in the USA. Longo Toyota, in California. They are always packed. And dumb me, I just popped in there without an appointment. That's ok, I like walking around and looking at all the new cars & trucks. And eating Subway sandwiches. :D

They like you walking around their showroom for obvious reasons.

I really like the plaques on the wall for their year-by-year sales numbers.

Toyota Recalls Prius Hybrids for Fire Risk - Consumer Reports

A worn-out wire harness could cause a short circuit

Toyota is recalling 192,000 of its 2016 to 2018 Prius hybrids sold in the U.S. because of a fire risk. Wiring in the front of the vehicle could wear over time and cause a short circuit, which the automaker said could cause a fire.

The recall is part of a larger campaign that includes more than 1 million vehicles worldwide, the majority sold in Japan.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that Toyota discovered the defect after a dealer in Japan reported "abnormal odor, smoke, and flames" from a customer's vehicle. One warranty claim in the U.S. may be related to the issue, the automaker said.

So I just had this repair done and they only wrapped one of the two wiring harnesses. That was kind of odd to me, did anybody else have both wrapped or just one?

NVM, I see it's only one one side on the bottom where the wear could occur.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you received notices from your dealer about the recall? Or, are you just making an appointment with the dealer specifically for the recall repair (or as part of a regular service interval)?

I have not received any notice. I made an appointment with my preferred dealer who is 150 miles away. While there they will also give me a free annual state inspection. They offer that to all their customers but I usually pay locally.

Wife just had her recall done during an oil change. Apparently it wasn't exposed so they put the tesa tape on it.
Being the curious sob that I am , I thought I'd take a look. They only put tape on one cable ? 20181015_201149.jpeg 20181015_201055.jpeg

Apparently. I take mine in this Saturday but I have minor surface damage (I hope) on the other cable. It will be interesting to see what the dealer does to mine.

That’s correct. See page 13 of the remedy instructions, linked in post #69.

Pretty ironic. The wire with the added tape is the one not to appear to make contact with the shroud, the one without is touching the shroud. I'll leave it well alone though. Wife pays for her auto insurance.

The damage that could cause the fire is apparently not from the plastic cover, but the structure underneath the wire.

You mean a metal structure under the plastic cowel?

Had mine done today and they've done the same, wrapped the right hand one and not the other, which has been rubbing on the cover.
I've put a thin piece of closed cell foam between the cover and the left one to prevent any further rubbing.
Interestingly the right hand harness was not touching anything, top or bottom, so it didn't really need the wrapping. o_O

Maybe it's something that touches and rubs the cables more inside the black box ?
I think it's only held in with a few clips which allows the black trim piece to open for better viewing?
