same here, but you are misunderstanding me. i'm saying toyota isn't going to change, because they like gathering our data. they don't want to give it up to someone else, in the hopes that it will sell more cars.

pilotgrrl, if you go into the menu you can adjust the volume of the GPS voice.

The Prius Navigation System Owners Manual is a ridiculous 292 pages. The owner's manual is 796 pages! So here are the instructions to set the volume. The second photo focuses on voice recognition but it also leads you to adjusting the volume.

PriusPeep, thanks for posting. I love the info in the manuals, but sometimes I feel like I'm back in school reading a textbook!

Just speaking about my specific gripe, which was the antiquated GPS....I'm sure that Toyota HQ, the dealerships, the salespeople, and the users all are aware of this. And Toyota must have heard the complaints- my service manager said he's clearly aware of the frustrations out there.

The portable Garmins are so much more user friendly. These days, I just don't understand how a built in Toyota GPS system can lag so far behind a $200 Garmin sold in Walmart.

My nav unit gets me there most of the time. But I have learned NOT to rely on it. For my entertainment, I use a plugged in iPod. I can listen to books from my three apps I use. The head unit does manage pause and play functions adequately. I do have to start the book from my device if I'm not using the Apple books. Music works fine. It doesn't have the same interface as Apple but it does have search features that are similar. It is super simple to search by composer if you are into that sort of thing. I have 600 plus albums on my iPod and the head unit never has been able to index them all for any sort of voice command.

I thought Siri worked by holding the voice control button?

I wish there was a way to map voice control to OK Google or Siri or whatever.

Yeah I saw that, but it doesn't free up my phone.

I may still consider that moderation and use voice control for everything so I don't need to interact physically with the phone.

Yeah but it doesn't free up my phone. I suppose it's better than nothing.

If Carista can change settings, I'm just going to throw a new Android or Android Auto head into the new car.

Edit:. These minimum requirements to post links are broken. I keep having to delete the links in the quotes.

Carista does in fact change the settings and even more settings than the head unit has.

Did you know that holding your remote unlock button will open all the windows and sunroof!?
Why can't they make an option to close them all? That would be more useful. It's more annoying to have to get back in the car and turn it on and close everything.

So switch to T-Mobile when they have a free line promotion & get another phone. Problem solved.

I'd prefer to mount a tablet over the head unit (somehow) or just put another head unit in altogether. I am trying to eliminate phone usage, aside from the hotspot sharing.

But the fact that Carista can change the settings, that opens up more opportunities on what I may want to do.

FYI: I've started the arbitration process which apparently takes 30-40 days. This guy, the arbitration case manager was trying hard to convince me not to do it but could not tell me what it entails, how it works, what the process is nor did he give me any solutions.

We'll see where it goes from here.

You could open a hotspot on your phone and use a second phone or tablet piggy backed into it for Nav. I used my 8" tablet for Nav and it was great, but it did cover the rear view can picture when reversing. YMMV!

I bought one of those 8 legged spider-like bendy frames. Two of the rubberised feet I hooked into the central air vents, 2 more supported the tablet from below and 2 on each side to keep it steady.

Here's one like it on Amazon UK, tho I got mine in local store:-
