    There was an article recently about how consumers aren't really prepared about the cost of collisions or repair (due to failure of a part). Consumers want all the new stuff (like LED headlights, radar cruise, parking sensors) but may not realise the cost of repair for these parts.

    I'm looking at the damage on my car due to hit & run incidents. Right now, because they're on the rear bumper, I've left it as is (and my IPA is slightly crooked if I use it to park in a stall but I can compensate for it with onscreen adjustments prior to pressing "OK"). However, if I had a fully loaded Gen 4, I'd have to get the bumper repaired because the damage is in the area of one of the ICS sensors and the damage may also interfere with BSM/RCTA since the other damage spot is in the location of where the BSM/RCTA radar would be).

    New gadgets aside, the increasing use of the lighter weight, stronger, boron steel also has a cost increase, plus body shops need to upgrade their equipment because what they have for regular steel aren't powerful enough for controlled bending of the new stuff. The same applies to aluminum and carbon fiber. With these new materials, simply repairing a piece may not even be an option, and they'll need to be replaced at higher cost.
