Now non-NA built BEV can get a full tax credit on Lease.
According to Reuters:
U.S. Treasury says consumer leases can qualify for EV tax credits | Reuters
This makes it possible to lease a non-North American-built BEV with a full tax credit applied to the lease cost. And, since it is a commercial tax credit, the battery sourcing restriction does not apply even after Treasury and IRS implement the guideline for the consumer credit. As of today, Jan 1, 2023, leased BEV (and PHEV?) does not have the final assembly and battery sourcing restrictions to be eligible for the credit.
Good news for someone wanting to get into a BEV including Toyota bZ4X this year. Now, I have to keep my eyes open for a great lease deal as they once had several years ago on PHEVs. I remember seeing no money down $99/mo lease deal for Ioniq back when I was looking at Prius Prime for the first time. In fact, with this rule,...Salamander_King Jan 1, 2023 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,103 Likes: 0 Replies: 6 -
Canada wants 20% of Auto Sales to be Zero Emission by 2026
Some interesting data out of this Motor Illustrated article and reveals Canada has a long way to go to meet this target in proposed regulation. Total number of zero emission vehicles were only 5.2% of total car sales in 2021 and including plug-in hybrids were up to 7.2% in the first 6 months of 2022. Most of the blame on the current situation can point to lack of supply, not a lack of willingness, as consumers get frustrated and end up with more polluting options. I would assume a lot of that is also cost related as well, even given the credits available because many of them rely on purchase price limits.

Looks like the Canadian Gov't is ready to enforce this by penalizing the manufacturers.

So don't warm up your car. Just go after 30sec.
"Smart Motors Toyota says letting your car idle in cold temperatures can shorten the life of your engine by stripping away oil from the engine’s pistons and cylinders — two critical components that help your engine run, Stephen Ciatti, Ph.D., principal engineer for battery systems at PACCAR, told Business Insider in 2016.
Gas-powered cars need oil to keep their engines lubricated. When you start a car, an oil pump circulates the oil in less than a minute. But if you let your car idle to warm up the cabin, the oil will start to slowly drain away from the engine's key components since the engine isn’t moving the car.
“Less oil means more friction, more wear and tear, and a shorter life for your engine,” Firestone says.
While some people let their cars idle to warm up the interior, others may actually be trying to protect their engine because of outdated guidance."
"Instead of waiting for your car to warm up in the winter, most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after...PriusV17 Dec 22, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 2,798 Likes: 0 Replies: 41 -

Toyota Hilux EV Concept Debuts To Preview Potential Zero-Emissions Truck
I want this EV truck. It would be far more useful and economical than F1 Lightning.

The only thing is that I don't think it will ever come to the US market.

sudden speed loss
hi i have a 2020 prius prime, i have been experiencing sudden loss of speed when driving on freeway. if i am at lets say 72 it will all of the sudden stop dropping down even thou i have not let up on the accelerator, it may slow down to lets say 64/65. now i am having to drive on the farthest lane to prevent back up. the speed does come up again after a few minutes but driving on the carpool lane makes this a scary situation when you are the one holding back traffic. has anyone experienced this? i have taken it down to autozone to get the scan to see if any issues come up but nothing comes up on the report.
i would appreciate any feedback.dayanara b Dec 15, 2022 Prime Care, Maintenance and Troubleshooting Read More Views: 6,559 Likes: 0 Replies: 22 -

The impact on utility rates in CA of EV charging
Study: Electric cars make utility bills cheaper for everyone - Autoblog
Comes to the conclusion that rates for everyone go down as charging uses energy at the most efficient time for generation as charging adds revenue from the use of electricity that would otherwise go to waste and utilities are profit capped.
I wonder if the results would be the same in a cooler climate location?mikefocke Dec 12, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,026 Likes: 0 Replies: 43 -

Lexus Announces Manual Transmissions at the Kenshiki Forum
LEXUS ELECTRIFIED TO REINVENT THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
In addition to showing off their new RZ 450e, Lexus Europe also announced they intend to provide manual transmission in EVs. First up will be the UX 300e and will include not only the gear lever but a clutch as well.
Excerpt form the presentation:
"An EV powertrain with manual transmission
For many drivers, the control and engagement provided by a manual transmission is an important part of an enjoyable driving experience. Lexus has investigated how a battery electric vehicle might be equipped with a manual transmission – a project that has progressed to focused development using a research prototype based on the UX 300e compact SUV, equipped with a gear lever and a clutch pedal.
Takashi Watanabe, Lexus Electrified Chief Engineer, explained: “From the outside, this vehicle is as quiet as any other BEV. But the driver is able to... -
Toyota Starts on a Hydrogen Hilux
UK government threw in some money to get Toyota to manufacture a Hilux powered by fuel cells. So this will be the second HyHi except the the other is the HiHy (Highlander Hybrid). Looks to be a default AWD based on the internals. It too will also be a hybrid. Initial demonstration prototypes will be built next year, 2023.
Makes sense for Europe. They have a somewhat established numerous hydrogen refueling stations in a much smaller area. Avoids the import tax as well since this will be built in the Toyota Burnaston, UK site.

EVs and market share
Source: https://www.spglobal.com/mobility/en/research-analysis/new-ev-entries-nibbling-away-at-tesla-ev-share.html
Regardless of brand or price point, early S&P Global Mobility data suggests consumers moving to electric vehicles in 2022 are largely doing so from Toyota and Honda - brands which have been unable to keep their internal combustion owners loyal until their own brands begin to participate more significantly in the EV transition.
While both Japanese companies built a US legacy with phenomenal fuel economy and powertrain technologies - including electrification through hybrids, plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell electric vehicles - both have been caught flat-footed in the context of 2022. S&P Global Mobility conquest data for Tesla's Model 3 and Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq5, and Chevrolet Bolt show strong captures of buyers from the two...bwilson4web Dec 1, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 770 Likes: 0 Replies: 3
