After taking enough business classes, the choice becomes clear. Market conditions, product cycle, technology advancements, and economic pressures play a big role and are much more complicated than it would first appear.

Fortunately, those reasons for having waiting are becoming easier to see. Just look at the price of gas. How many would have actually been taken seriously when the possibilty of $2 gas was brought up?

Just checked Fremont Toyota site. They have 109 Prius liftbacks in stock. That's a lot!
btw, Fremont Toyota and Auto Mall are about 2 miles from the Tesla Mfrg. plant.

My gosh. Do they perhaps supply the other local dealerships with stock?

That is a crazy amount of prius.

Are they a huge volume dealer. Has to be holding those numbers in stock.

Are those 15 states the "carb" states?

Which is probably why Toyota wants to make the next Prius more than just mpg. The articles we've read so far about switching the rear suspension to a double wishbone or the TGNA platform allowing for a lower centre of gravity - The Prius needs something else to attract buyers in times of cheap gas prices.

Close to, but not exactly list of CARB states...for example, VA, AZ, NH not CARB, but PA, DE are partial CARB and are missing

Fremont Toyota has 540 new Toyotas in stock today. Volume dealer for sure. The next dealer is only about 12 miles South and they have several hundred new Toyotas too. This is SF Bay Area. It's huge.

on the other hand, they can't keep sequoia's on the lot, and they make a lot more money on those.

Gotcha, plus as I've learned on these fourms Cali is #1 for Prius sales in the USA.

So am I correct in assuming that the Bay Area is #1 in the USA For Prius sales, as well as #1 area in Cali for Prius sales? It seems logical...

We can thank the soccer moms and type "A" personalities for that.

I lovingly call those behemoths "Suburban Assault Vehicles"!!! Haha!!

May I differ from your characterization of Pa and DE as partial? They're not partial in the sense of being geographically divided. Do you mean they've adopted some CARB standards but not others, e.g. the ZEV mandate. Keep in mind that under federal law states may not require what amounts to a "third car" -- that is, one that follows neither California or the Federal standards. ZEV, I think, is the only exception to that.

Think about how chaotic the plug-in market was 3 years ago, when the decision was made. There were so many unknowns and lot of change was about to make the situation even more confusing. To add to that, we've been watching the price of gas fall.

Hi Craig, we have some prior posts on the CARB states.
The 8 full "extended" CARB states (which includes 150k miles/10-yr batt warranty) are CA, NJ, MD, ME, CN, MA, RI, VT, whereas NY and OR also cover hybrid battery to 150k but have some CARB exceptions in other ways. PA, DE, WA are not "extended" CARB warranty so you don't get the hybrid battery extension to 150k miles 10-yrs.

You are legally correct, those 14 are all CARB states but we tend to focus on the hybrid battery warranty to 150k miles, in that sense several of the 14 are partial (or not extended CARB).

PS- I am still confused about Wash DC CARB status, but some references list DC as a CARB state
