Yes but none of that matters when you are limited by the inverter in the Toyota hybrid and the electric motors after it. If you have a battery pack capable of powering a small city hooked up to a Prius inverter and MG1/MG2 combo, you don't make any gains.

And you have to account for a LOT more than just "current overload" and "discharge protection". They are NOTHING alike compared to NiMH.

Having designed battery packs for the automobile industry including "big name players" from the US, Germany, Japan, and Korea, that is a poor assumption to make.

The Gen 4 NiMH modules have been used successfully in a Gen 2 by Todd at Tampa Hybrids. The Gen 4 cells use a higher grade of nickel, according to Toyota,
It is currently unknown whether the Gen 4 Li-Ion modules work in the US plugin Prius that also uses Li-Ion modules.

Do you have any way if telling whether Gen 4 (or Prime) Li-Ion modules word work in a PiP? I know you have a lot of battery knowledge here.

to answer the o/p's question, we don't track battery rebuilding reliability. anecdotally, it is pretty bad.

Hmmm. Building that, isn't just ....you've got to take into cognizant, safety precautions, and how do you incorporate those into the car?

The whole battery car weight would ha e to be revisited.

@2k1Toaster Hey just got around to checking this out. Best wishes for your new venture.

    Just some thoughts
You can get unprotected 18650 type cells as an OEM but all the safety responsibility and liability is on you.
If before you had battery trouble you cleaned up the bus bars on say a yearly basis and could replace them every few years the original packs might last decades. Once the cells have been compromised your pretty much screwed and might as well start new.

A 3 to 6 mile drop in fast charge plug in pack for the HB would suit me just fine if it could be done with out losing hatch space. But I'm an oddball who doesn't do the "bigger is better to excess" thing.
