This $69 gizmo puts car companies to SHAME. Why are we being charged top dollar for telematic systems that are WAY below par when 69 bucks is all it takes?

    Take note toyota

Pretty cool. Hope it have built-in GPS to locate your can when stolen.

I wish Toyota could have an accessory like that to enable PIPA telematic feature for PIP.

The app is for regular cars. So it may have limited use for PIP.

I guess we all have "things" we'd like incorporated into the PiP. Toyota can't please us all. (Personally I'd like a 6000 round per minute Vulcan mini-gun coming out of the roof. Maybe in 2015. :) )

It appears to me that $69 is not all that it takes, unless that includes the cost of the smartphone that must go with it. Not all of us have yet joined that world.

I also need to see how well it really performs before gushing over it. I could easily image that it might just codify the common oversimplified advice, not the more detailed stuff learned from hypermiling.

From the description, this looks an OBD-II dongle that connects to an iPhone app (forget it, Android users!). It won't help for functionality when you (and your iPhone) are away from your car.

And unless it specifically understands hybrids and their distinctive operating characteristics, I can't see how it would help with the PiP, or any other Prius for that matter.

This is a good tool for the novice user... But for people who know what they're doing ScanGauge, Torque App, PriiDash, and Toyota Tech Stream will offer way more abilities, modes, measurements than this tool will ever provide. It might be a good way to get started if you aren't sure what you want, but once you want more, you'll for sure be ditching it for something better!
