Yes, Thanks, I'll be filing the report with NHTSA. Actually, I was pretty much dared(not pointedly but not subtle either) to call NHTSA by Toyota Customer Experience Rep.

My wife took our 2010 in today for the master cyl. $3200 estimate,I'm shocked.

This thing has been a POS! In 100k miles, this is the second major brake failure, a replaced head gasket to repair an oil leak only to find out that it's burning a quart of oil each 1000 miles which Toyota considers normal?

After a Landcruiser, a Celica, a Tacoma and a Prius, I'm done with Toyota. So much for paying extra for quality.

Sadly, welcome to the brake master cylinder failure club. Mine ruined any future Toyota purchase.

I have 2013 Prius purchased brand new with 65,000 miles and my master cylinder failed (break fluid was leaking on my foot inside the car while driving. The cost to repair is $6000. My warranty covers it 'this time' but what about next time? Is this a Prius recall item or should it be? I am not interested in spending another $6000 when the master cylinder fails again after my warranty expires. Any suggestions anyone?

This is a recall item. Happened to me as well, but before the recall was issued. I had an extended warranty that covered it, but would have had to fight with Toyota to get money back after recall issued.

6000 for A master cylinder is outrageous that is 1/4 of the cost of the car. If this,is how Toyota treats it customer base you can bet your @$$ I have owned all 3 of my Toyota prius 1st last and only

The master cylinder retails at $2500, so they must have done a bit more. Can you scan the bill and post it?

I have 2013 Prius V and was told by non dealer mechanic that brake master cylinder problems. I have less tat 60K miles. Looked up recalls in NT database no reports. Dealer cost is $$$$ any suggestions? and could this be a mass problem because no accidents and relative low miles

    Looking up this part number:

    47050-47060

Which was posted by OP back on page 1 here:

Master Brake Cylinder Failure | PriusChat

Here's a couple of links to online toyota retailers, looks to currently be $1600~1700 (US). Bear in mind too, OP is/was in Canada:

McGeorge Toyota Parts Online product search | Toyota Parts

47050-47060 - Genuine Toyota CYLINDER ASSY, BRAKE

Your specific vehicle, here's the McGeorge link for Prius v, again about $1600~1700:

Master Cylinder Assembly - Toyota (47050-47110) | Toyota Parts

Still not cheap, especially with several hours labour (?), but at least not $3500 for the part.

I got one off ebay for 120 bucks. I installed it and its been fine for over a year now. You do need tech stream to bleed the back but its a pretty easy job and took me about 4 hours cause I am slow. I see people say used is no good, but the minute you put a brand new 1600 dollar part in your car..its used.

I cannot seem to be allowed to post a link, but I bet I can post the sellers name amaktronics

I gave him my number and he sent me the same.
