The ECU -inverter loop contains coolant that dissipates heat from the transaxle.

The transaxle fill plug does not need a magnet.

The drain plug is the one that needs a magnet. It takes all of the steel and iron particles worn off of the gears and other metal parts of he transaxle. Otherwise, these friction particles circulate with the transaxle fluid and increase wear in the gears and other moving parts.

    Hope this 'splains it.

Rude person's (and anyone who installed a magnet), have you ever found anything on the magnets?

Did experience prove you were right to install a magnet?

Look at post #473. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Remember Gen2 Prius came standard w/ a weak magnetic drain plug. Gen3/C/vagons, have no magnetic drain plug.

I can't answer directly, but anyway ... I recently changed the transaxle oil at about 48K. The old stuff came out black, but when I stirred it in the drain pan with a magnet, no visible particles stuck to the magnet, and none showed up in the bottom of the drain pan when I poured the oil off. Nevertheless, just in case, I replaced the original drain plug with the Rude person's plug I'd bought in advance. I can answer your question when I change next, which could be a fairly long wait.

Hi Mike, I can't find this on eBay. Do you still have these for sale? If not, is there any set you recommend?

    18mm crush washer, replacement 5pack (SW-05 SW06), $3.99
Drain plug is bigger, must use Goldplug's 18mm crush washer. OEM Toyota transaxle drain plug is smaller w/ a smaller crush washer.

    12mm crush washer, replacement 5pack (SW-03), $3.99
