    Hello,

Is anyone using None AGM 12v Battery or Flood battery in Prius and why not? I believe i've read somewhere there're converter so we can use None AGM battery from any Auto shop as long as it fit in battery space behind. Still, why it needs a converter for none AGM 12v Battery?

I never heard of a "converter". FYI, Gen4 and Prius Prime use a regular flooded lead-acid 12v battery under the hood, not in the cargo area inside the car. I thought the only reason, Gen3 and earlier Prius used AGM is due to the safety issue of having a flooded battery in the cabin in case of the acid leak.

You "can" use any 12v battery. But a lead acid is not a good idea.
Leaks, and it gives off toxic gases as it charges, inside the cabin. So, not a good idea.

I don't know the physical size of the AGM 12v battery in the Gen3. Even though I have owned Gen3 for three years, I never had to replace it. I did not even know where the battery was back then when I had Gen3. Gen4 and PP use the size is called LN 1, H4, or 140R. The physical spec was commented by @Elektroingenieur. Gen 4 12 Volt battery. | Page 4 | PriusChat

The OEM 12v battery for Gen4 and PP from Toyota is ~$180, but you can find aftermarket 12v battery in this size group at less cost around $120-$130. With a core exchange and sales coupon, you can find one at around $100.

I am sure he wants to buy a low priced battery to save money.

There are concerns about terminal diameter and placement. The proper agm has smaller diameter terminals than standard and are often switched between the plus and minus. The switched polarities have sometimes resulted in blown electrical parts.

Just got a Lead Acid Group 51 Battery from local Walmart and is half price less than all OEM AGM Group 51 that fix Gen3 out there. My concern, is any report by using None AGM battery can damage Prius Hybrid Battery?

A bad installation can ruin lots of electrical components in your car. The number one issue is reversing the plus and minus terminals. Group 46B24R is the battery that fits properly.

Group 51 fit perfectly, I got AGM 1yrs ago amazon item below from amazon and it's working fine.. but turn out I gave to my sister's Prius. I'm projecting for this Lead Acid one if it work. Installation, it shouldn't have problem.

It shouldn't hurt the hybrid battery. The only known risk, quite low but non-zero, is to the humans inside the car. And a mask won't help at all.

Well, the flooded have similar vent holes right? Then just plug one side and connect the drain. Accident where the battery is impacted would be the question mark. I've read of a few smart fortwo owners smelling the rotten egg of a dying 12 V and surviving, but I guess those who didn't couldn't post that they died?....

SAE to JIS adapter? Care to share how you got it to fit?

(I switched to LiFePO4. Since they should have fixed the fitment. No drain holes...)

What exactly is a "none" AGM battery ?

The converter performs the function of an alternator in a conventional car to keep the 12 V battery charged.

Not sure @Tekken presented the question clearly.

The posts (as you probably already know) of a Group 51 battery (I have/had one in my Scion iQ) have SAE (thick/standard posts) and the S46B24R has JIS (thin posts).

May be referring to SAE to JIS post adapters?

Or the concern that the two battery types have slightly different charge profiles?

    moto g(7) power ?
