Tried to search for others getting a p2610 engine code "ECM/PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance" on a base model 2004 Prius. Ive reset the code several times and is coming right back. Anyone know the diagnostic tests that would condemn ECM replacement? If the ECM needs to be replaced can I just swap a used one in and drive? or will it need to be programmed by a dealer. What are the consequences of driving with the check engine light on? car runs/drives fine iv'e had the problem for about 350 miles

the only consequence will be the inability to get smog checked when the time comes

Cool i'll check 12v battery voltage and see if my scanner picks up an ECT reading. 12v battery is only 4 months old but ya never know

You might want to test that proper 12V power and ground are present where they need to be at the correct circuits on the ECM connector. See the service manual wiring diagram.

If so, then I would get a used ECM (match up the part number) and try it. The ECM is plug and play on a Gen 2 Prius.

Also clean the throttle body as removing 12V power resets the ECM adaptives . These are learned adjustments to things like throttle opening that compensate for normal "goop buildup" in the intake that occurs over time. If it's reset with a dirty TB, then the throttle might not allow enough air through it to let the engine start.
