True, but parts of the dashboard are shiny black. I believe the decals are shiny too.

This small display does not show %SOC but rather % of full charge (software full) there is an upper buffer between 100% full charge and 100%SOC.

As long as all Prime are using the same scale, I see no problem. The 'head room' SOC is not usable.

In an ideal world, I would have a 'trip meter' that reports something like kWh used over a given distance. That may exist in the Prime but the BMW i3-REx tripmeter, only one, is built around it with Teutonic precision.

More seat time today, I found the nav option that enables reading speed signs.

Sad to say the manual describes how to reset the TPS after fully inflating the tires . . . the instructions for my Plus (lowest level) are wrong. This justifies registering the car with 'My Toyota' and opening a case.

Bob, how did you make this plot from the certification data? I can't see any data in that spreadsheet from which I could derive the above plot.

A work in progress, I reduced the spreadsheet to the data table and graph:
The spreadsheet has one flaw I plan to fix (see columns S and T.) I have the roll down coefficients but only use the single set of coefficients in S5:T13. So all cars get "40%" thermodynamic efficiency and "600W" overhead. All of these parameters need to be put under the vehicle specific, roll-down coefficients and adjusted for the specific models. It is particularly obvious with the Gen-3 graph. But this much we know:
    • Gen-4 and Prime - improved engine efficiency from ~38% to ~40%
    • Gen-4 and Prime - improved transmission efficiency substantially
    • Gen-4 and Prime - I suspect have lower vehicle overhead than the Gen-3
I suspect that if we can get accurate metrics, we can find the performance curves match the observed benchmarks. Regardless, enjoy the spreadsheet.

Oh...okay, so no bsfc or efficiency maps can be derived from this spreadsheet - you essentially assumed one.

Actually I used values previously reported by Toyota and my own engineering estimates. The PRIME curve pretty well fits two data points at 28 mph and 60 mph. I have one Gen-4 data point for the Level 3-4 and a more extensive set for the Gen-3. So I'll adjust the coefficients to match the benchmarks.

I must not know how to read that. Is it saying the 2 ECO gets over 110 mpg at 20 mph?

    Based on the spreadsheet model:
    • ~122 MPG @21-22 mph - Level 2 ECO
    • ~115 MPG @20 mph - Prius Prime
      • 105.5 MPG @28 mph for 10.5 miles
      • 55.7 MPG @60-65 mph for 1,200 miles
    • ~105 MPG @25 mph - Gen-3 Prius
      • 99 MPG @25 mph, limit of vehicle meter

After a cold soak to 32F and having filled the tires on Sunday, I tried my local roll-down slope. The car was doing 14 mph when I reached the stop sign. This suggests the Prime has unusually low rolling resistance ... very nice!

Bob, have you seen a thing like this for the 2016+ (4th generation) with all the improvements to get to 40% thermal efficiency?

Just as impressive, or perhaps more, is the expanded 230 gram/kWh island.
