I have 2019 prius prime, 27000 miles. I was told peeling steering wheel cover is not covered by my warranty and dealership will not fix it free. What should I do? I've called toyota main branch number with this problem but they said there is nothing else I can do. Is there any numbers I can call to make complaints? I guess my loyalty is not good enough after owning only toyota for 25years.

Yap, it's a known issue on Prius Prime and Gen4 Prius. You can try pressing the issue with the Toyota. Sometimes if you call multiple times you get different answer from different case manager.

Ask for a good will replacement. If you still can’t get them to cover, there are nice aftermarket wheels for around $200.00 that will enhance the look and feel.

I am thinking of getting a steering wheel cover to try and avoid this issue. Would be grateful for any suggestions for a vegan (non-leather) cover that would be compatible with the sterring wheel material; to avoid the cover itself destroying the wheel material.

    EDIT: Added vegan (non-leather).

Vegan will be petroleum based, which also adds to global warming, You just can't win.

Gonna be hard to find a vegan cover, as most will be leather. If your careful with the handeling and cleaning of the wheel and use a sunshade that will help. Note that any hand disinfect will ruin the steering wheel material.

The escalation procedure is in the Warranty & Maintenance Guide (PDF), pages 5–6. If you’ve already discussed the problem with the dealer (Step 1) and with Toyota (Step 2), you could try writing a letter—the address is on Toyota’s Contact Us page—or proceed to warranty arbitration (Step 3). In California, you can use the California Dispute Settlement Program, also described on the National Center for Dispute Settlement website.

    How is it peeling?
Deal must think it is from wear/ tear/ cosmetic.

A 2019 car I would think this would be a warranty issue.
Is the car still in its 12 month warranty?

Never the less, I would replace.
Not sure if I would wrap with the Wheelskins product shown above.

Good luck in getting this warrantied.

I am having the same issue with my 2018 Prius Prime. I have been told that it was caused by my ring by the dealership and apparently the home office. Funny thing is that I would have to drive with my hand in a very awkward position to hit that particular spot with my ring. This started showing up at about 17,000 miles and not covered under the warranty because they classify the steering wheel as “trim”—their words, not mine, After reading this thread, it truly sounds like a defective product. Maybe time to file a class action suit? I don’t know about you all, but I don’t have an extra $700 lying around to replace the steering wheel. By the way—this is my third Prius and 4th Toyota and never had problems before (wearing the same ring BTW).

Same issue here.. dealer and regional manager wont cover it.. act as if it is not a known issue. My Prime is 2018 with 3X,XXX miles.. steering wheel has been delaminated for over a year now. They say not a defect and not covered.
