Strange noise coming from the front

    Hello all,

    First of all excuse my english, I'm from France (I ve been to cleveland High school for a year in portland in 1990 but well, I lost my english...).

    I'm totally new to Hybride world (I've been driving a Golf V GTi Edition 30 for 10 years until yesterday)...

    I took my Prim solar from the dealer yesterday morning I drove back to Paris (260km) : very smooth drive, it was the first time in my life that I drove an Hybrid !

    Anyway, when I came back to my garage I heard this strange noise (I think when I was breaking) :
    I made a video :

    Edit : I can't post video since I'm a new member :(

    I can send to private mail. It's like a fridge noise or like a motor (but loader because I can her it with windows closed) it's around 2-3 sec and coming front the front when I press the break.

    Is it normal ?

    Does the noise you hear sound like a crunch, a grind, a squeal, a whine? It must be very loud if you can hear it with the windows closed.

    In fact I heard it while I was driving. Then, I stopped to my parking (contact was on I think) I opened the window (I was not moving) pressed the break and then few seconds after I could heard the noise. It was coming each time when I pressed the brake from the front.

    A hybrid HAS big electric motors, that also function as generators when stopping.
    It likely is perfectly normal.

    Hybrids make various "different" sounds.
    Most of them are humming or whirring noises of pumps and fans.

    Yes, I think that is very likely.

    That's funny, I drove a 2G for 12 years and never noticed any interesting sounds while braking. One of my sisters called the inverter coolant sounds the "dial tone". I miss that. My 4G seems to make fewer interesting sounds than the 2G did.

    Today first use of my Prime in the traffic of Paris ! Very nice to drive in electric.
    About the noise, it happens each time I'm breaking. It's annoying....
    I think I will be able to post the link this afternoon because I need to wait 24hrs before doing it.

    I think your statement implied that what the OP was asking about is somehow rare and abnormal.
    I think it is not.

    I can hear this noise as soon as I push the break pedal while driving my Prius Prime. I can hear it from inside.
    So is it a normal behavior ?

    Peut être les volets avant qui se ferment mal ou qui s'ouvrent à moitié.

    À faire vérifier.

    You don't have this noise when you drive then break ?
    It's exactly the same when you open the driver door before you start the car.

    Dear Dook,

    I've heard the sound and as you found out, it is the brake accumulator buzz.
    Perfectly normal.
