If you need heat, use two eggs full of gas. PiP is efficient with either fuels.

It's intriguing to hear that when given the option to choose, there are complaints that it's not forced.

  3. Natural outside air would be fine, as in other vehicles.

The setting of "LO" provides that.

  6. If you compare air flow quantity and velocity, LO position equates to NIL.

If you set the temperature to "LO" with auto "OFF" and defrost "OFF" prior to powering off, then any blower speed and any combination of window/foot/mid will circulate air from outside without starting the engine.

Sorry, but the simplification was due to not being able to follow the context anymore. There are several posts all discussing the same thing all at the same time. Please disregard all previous mentions and only accept the text in bold above.

this thread got derailed quite a bit but i did want to make sure this didn't go unanswered –
the Gen 3 Prius have an all-electric water pump which does NOT require the ICE to run. Of course, ICE still needs to run at least once to warm up the coolant initially, but after that, as long as coolant stays above a certain temperature (which apparently depends not just on whether you've selected ECO mode but also what your climate control temp is set to), you will continue getting heat without any ICE operation. John does this all the time during his commute.

When it's cold out, I turn on the heater! Why make life so frigging complicated?

In cold weather, just get in the car and turn on the heated seats, and drive it. This car gets great MPG, and I could give one twit about CO2 omissions.

some of us are concerned about emissions.

  20. I have always been talking about initial warm-up only.
