Nutz About Bolts Prius Maintenance Videos

I guess wasn't tight enough. I used an impact. Loosened over a week. I drove two hours to visit family. Next day I went to weinerdogs at the drive thru I could smell oil burning. I had some trans leaking from seal but the smell is different. Pulled over and I see oil everywhere. Check oil on dipstick ok I have enough. I baby it home side streets. It was spraying oil from crankshaft seal. Pulley bolt I was able to remove with my hands. Now I marked the bolt and pulley hasn't moved. I never found the key. My uncle said the crankshaft might be no good. I used Loctite 660 let it sit for a couple days before reassembly. It's been almost 30k no issues. Im happy didnt happen two hours away from home.

You are lucky to cought it in time. It should be fine now if you can tighten it right. Crankshaft seal are already renewed and the rest of the engine should be fine.
I won't worry if we have no wierd knocking or rattling sounds from VVTI, mai bearing, or lifter.
Respect for opening the timing cover. it is an expensive jo

 

The kit does come with the timing chain cover seal. Please kindly read the description of what is included to ‘nut’ get confused As for the valve steam seals, exhaust manifold gasket and EGR gaskets there is an option to add to the kit

Does the kit have descriptive labels and part nos on each item or group of items?

consider an alternate kit with the Toyota head gasket?

 

Yes we categorized each location so a DIYer such as yourself can do the install

 

I believe the official Toyota kits just dump everything together, supply no ID or labels.

The OEM Toyota Headgasket is one of the reasons why we have Headgasket failure even with the so called ‘Revision’ - FelPro is the way to go if you are planning to keep your car for a long time

 

Maybe. The question in my mind, if a FelPro head gasket had been installed at the factory, and the car run for 150K miles, with the EGR system and intake manifold never touched, would it fare any better?

Or are we just shooting the messenger? Kind of like pulling the goalie when the defense has come apart.

Not saying it wouldn't, but it's something to consider. If I'm ever in need of a head gasket, I might test that theory.

Again, I'm on the fence, it could be the stock head gasket, at least in part. Telling that they've revised it too.

(If Toyota had run a few test cars for 150k~200K miles, and fixed the shortcomings, maybe we wouldn't be where we are.)

oh my bad, that look like the oil filler cap seal. Can't tell from that picture because thats what it looks like to me. I do see your listing also list the oil filler cap seal and the timing cover oil seal, but I only see one and not the other in the picture... unless it’s not in the picture? And the timing cover oil seal is brown and that looks black to me, so I’m not sure if its me or if anyone else see it is black or not. Also the kit is missing the exhaust manifold gasket. But overall, it is a nice kit, I wouldn't mind buying it.

If you get the FULL head gasket kit, it includes ALL the gaskets and "O" rings you'll need.
There are several for the valve cover gasket.

 

I bought the HG kit from Toyota and there were some o-rings and gaskets that wasn’t in the kit… I wish they included everything without us guessing which o-rings and gaskets we need

Yeah, that’s the 3rd gen kit number I bought from Toyota.

 

You didn't get the correct kit. You got the one I got!!
I had to purchase the crankshaft seal, coolant pump seal, and I forget the others....
It ended up costing more than if I had purchased the full kit.

I wanted to replace them all because I had 301,000 miles on the engine.

 

shoo, I just asked them to give me the head gasket kit, I didn’t know there were multiple different kinds lol.

what was the other FULL kit part number? That way I can buy it next time.

 

The parts guy mentioned it to me, but I didn't think I needed the full kit....
He was right....
I don't know the part number though, sorry.
If I ever do another head gasket I'll just ask for the full kit....
