I'm really not comfortable not having a spare tire. What are the odds this would be compatible with a Prius Prime? See attached. J
There are numerous threads already on this exact topic, and my general understanding is that while compact spare tire for Gen4 Prius (and probably Gen3 as well ) are compatible with PRIME, storage of the spare tire underdeck of PRIME is not possible due to hybrid battery placement. I have a full size spare with steel rim, but without much space to store it, I have not been carrying it in the car. Most of my driving is within 30 miles of home, so if I ever need to change to spare, I just need to call home to have it brought the spare to the site. For a longer trip, is another story, and I have not come up with a good solution without sacrificing already limited cargo spaces in PRIME. see also: Donut Spare for 2017 Prius Prime? | PriusChat How to find and purchase a spare tire for a Prius Prime 2017/2018 | PriusChat
That's a good find. Unfortunately though: the kit wouldn't really work with a Prius Prime, with it's raised hatch deck and larger hybrid battery. It looks to be designed for regular fourth gen prius that came without spare. I'd suspect it's 2018 Prius compatible as well, just that it was written in 2017.
I recently researched extensively spare tire options for my 2024 Prius Prime SE with EZ Spare and Modern Spare. I bought EZ Spare. They were fabulous and VERY helpful. I had my Toyota technician review both tires and they picked EZ Spare because it was closest to my tire size. Here’s why. I needed a 17” with Deminsion of 26.2 Tire size for: Ez Spare 145/80R/17, tire dimensions 26.1. Modern Spare 135/70R/18. Technicians said not to buy an 18”. Both 99M speed limit. Modern Spare kept giving me different answers with different people on Driving Range and tread life. Ez Spare never changed their data. More importantly EZ Spare had 5 holes as opposed to 5-10 holes with Modern Spare— I read on a thread that the AAA person used the wrong holes and damaged car. Hope this helps.
@Hammersmith thread says the stock temp spare rim part no is: 42611-21280. Looks to be $85~ USD , through LA dealership.
modern and easy are not donuts, so i would compare them to full size price. considering one for the bolt, but i think i can get a wheel and tyre from tyre rack for a better price.
Unless I’m mistaken again, I can get a full size wheel and tyre for $162. Including mounting and balancing, tax and shipping from tyre rack. I wonder how much the Prius setup would cost
Temp spares are almost the same OD as stock, or should be. Gen 3 and 4 have the same stock 195/65R15 size (25" OD), but inexplicably gen 3 temp spare is T135/80D16 (24.5" OD), and for gen 4 it's T125/70D17 (23.9" OD).
