Totally agree with justdidit and 69shovlhed, get the rear Progress Sway bar, and the front from a Matrix (Corolla - same part numbers).

Dave - I get most of your mods, but the planned future brake mods - have you EVER faded the brakes in a Prius?

I could understand a rear disc conversion like I'd love to do on my 2G, simply for quick inspection of wear and a consistent braking force, but AT MOST I'd get better pads, i.e. even LONGER lasting ones. Though with 115k and 136k on the clock, I still haven't replaced them on my 04 and 06.

I'm all for mods, but I'm also a cheap bastard, so I only do them when needed. On my 90 Talon, I knew it was time for a brake upgrade when I faded them trying to take the first turnoff after the lights at the 1/4 ;-)

And those COPs - $1100+? Ouch. If you had forced induction, maybe...

In this thread: GenII Brake Upgrade w/o breaking the bank? | Page 4 | PriusChat - I'm getting closer to doing my suggested full Tundra 13WL Caliper setup and Subaru Legacy GT 316mm rotors (12.44") with a custom Caliper bracket. All under $500 :)

I'd like to do the IS350 caliper setup but its an extra $200 for the set..

Did the right thing and got the Progress rsw. Rides smooth but hear it clanging around. The factory bolts are too small or need something around them to fit tighter. Any suggestions or am I missing gaskets that should have come with?

if its "clanging" with the bolts torqued, you might have it on upside down. no gaskets.

but yes get some grade 9.8 or higher bolts and lock nuts. there are TRD bolts I think, or I used benz control arm bolts. I think maybe they're 14mm diameter, shouldn't be too hard to find some better hardware.

Had to special order the bolt from Toyota. They are just a hair too big. Won't even slide into the sway bar holes. Tried heating up the holes but still can't fit this bolt. I'm stuck with $20 nuts and bolts since it was a special order.lol. Should I get a huge drill bit and widen the holes or cut my losses, put the bolts on ebay and go to the hardware store?

Did you try inserting the bolts the the holes without the bar installed? You're inserting thru the bottom of the rear support right? I used these bolts on my 2007 and 2008.... i Can't imagine that they wouldn't work on a 2006. Can you take a picture of your bolts as a comparison?

Ugh. I'm sorry. I dug up old pictures of my install and I found the photos with the part numbers written on the bags. The ones I told you ARE wrong. :( These are the correct ones. 90105-14155

I have attached the TRD RSB instructions as well.

*I tried to rotate the pictures but they kept uploading 'on their side' no matter which way i had them saved on my pc.

The dealer's computers were down when I went to pick up my parts so they just swapped me out for my old bolts that were too big.Got the right nuts and bolts in!!!! So far no clanking and clunking. Thanks fellow Prius pals :):):)

Oh here are my install PICs with the original bolts. Sprayed it down with PB blaster.

Had some trouble breaking the bolts loose so temporarily removed this brake line thing to get more leverage. Still having trouble I heated up the bolts.

    Got the new bar in.

    Remember to tighten this back.

Looks great! Could you tell a difference in handling and ride comfort?

Oh yes much better. Every car I own I plan on upgrading the sway bar. Don't feel like I'm getting bullied by the wind as much. It takes corners harder now and skirts the tires a bit, I like it!

SO meant to post this long ago. After lowering my car the sound intensified. Thought my new coil overs were bad so went crazy checking them only to find out it's the sway bar. Put the factory bolts back in and almost %90 clank sound gone. Anything else I can try for the small clanking I do get?

After lowering you car the larger sway bar bolts were causing a clanking noise and replacing them with the oem bolts resolved almost all noise?? Wonder how that's possible...?

Correct! I can try flipping the sway bar upside down and see if that helps.

it seems to me the bar fit better with the markings on it upside down. of course, I can't remember if there even were markings on it...

So I have a choice between the progress rear sway 24mm for 138 shipped vs the trd version for 160 shipped. I think the 24mm comes with bushings while the trd is separate. Is there any preference on here at those price points I should know about?

Also do i need the additional nuts and bolts or is that options?
