I have a 2018 prius prime advanced. I noticed the other day the glossy black part toward the back of the car is chipping revealing a matte underside. I know this isn't a huge deal but was wondering if there was a way to fix this or somehow replace just that part of the car? It's just that this is the first nice car I've ever owned and want to take care of it even if it's just something small like this.

It is a known issue on PP and on Gen4. You can paint it DIY, but the parts are not that expensive to replace and it is not hard at all.

Here are a few threads you can read.

Thanks. I tried searching for this topic but I wasn't entirely sure what to search for. I watched the video and feel fairly comfortable handling the issue myself but will have to continue searching the web for the part. I refuse to buy a used part for fear that this problem will just happen again and I haven't found a decent price on a new part. It's a shame that this is a known issue and Toyota isn't at least giving a little help to those it's happening to. I suppose the issue doesn't keep the vehicle from being drivable so they probably care very little. Thanks again.

In case anyone comes across this, the part number is 62505-47011.

Yeah, I agree with you on using used parts. But even a new part may again start peeling after a few years. Toyota must realize this is a known "defect" but opted to do nothing about it. There are a few other known cosmetic "defects" on PP that Toyota has not done anything to correct, such as hatch door handle backplate rusting, and steering wheel Softex peeling.

Thanks for the heads up on the other known issues. I'll do my best to keep an eye on and maybe do anything in my power to maintain those certain spots. I did contact Toyota via email in hopes of getting a discount or something for the part but I won't hold my breath. In any case I'll be buying the part new and pray to the car god that it doesn't have the same problem.

I also need to replace this panel on my 2016 Prius, mine was cracked when I purchased the car used, and has since partially broken off. This thread, along with several others here on this forum, have been very helpful. There was a reference in one thread to Amayama in Japan, they have the best price that I can find anywhere and I would like to order from them. However, the part number has me a bit confused. Searching for 62506-47011 on their site and others, brings up two results, 62506-47010 and 62506-47011. I need the left side part and both of these numbers seem to be correct, though the prices are about $10 different from one another. Does anyone know if there is a difference between these two part numbers?

I received the driver side panel and just finished installing it, the install took all of ten minutes and was uneventful. I viewed the video from post #6 above and had absolutely no trouble. I ending up purchasing the part new from MegaZip in Japan, here is the link to the part, 62506-47012 - Cover Sub-Assy, Quarter Pillar, Lh, Toyota OEM | Megazip.net. Total cost was $83 dollars and it arrived in about two weeks.MegaZip almost always has a discount code banner running across the top of their homepage, the one I used was 15% off. I'll go back to them the next time I need a part for our Prius or Sienna.
